Home-made or WD pillion seat?

I'm no expert with the finer points on pillion seats, but has this been crafted at the WD factory or in someone's shed? The edges look a little rough underneath as though it's a a mudguard that's met with a hacksaw - what do you think?

Re: Home-made or WD pillion seat?

Hi Lee, I have seen these 4 spring pillion sadles before but I'm not sure what they were made for.

Could it be a postwar rebuild part, the rear number plates made in the late 40s had a similar "tin snip" finish to them as well.

Re: Home-made or WD pillion seat?

Hi Lee..There are multiple versions of wartime pillion seats. The one in the photo certainly has some original components..and may be completely original.
However, it is not the pattern used on an M20 and is incorrect for that application in various areas..Ian

Are the smaller springs to the left of the photo available separately?

They look a bit like bicycle saddle springs, but the size could be different Rob.
