Unknow Sidecar Frame, BS?

Came up on this one today. I think it may be an early BSA framePhotobucket

Hi Henri
Looks more like Norton.

Re: Unknow Sidecar Frame, BS?

Thanks Rob, the two back springs look like it alright. But not the B4 I think.

Re: Unknow Sidecar Frame, BS?

Looks like Big4 or the non driven version, either way it seems to be missing the wheel and mudguard mounting outer rail?

Re: Unknow Sidecar Frame, BS?

I think you are correct Rob, a part B4 sidecare frame.

Re: Unknow Sidecar Frame, BS?

Henri. Here is a Norton chassis without wheel drive. The Norton chassis all seem to have the mudguard hoops. Ron

Re: Unknow Sidecar Frame, BS?

Thanks Ron, great picture and I hope you did not remove the boat just to take it! Tough to find these details on the web. I am guessing it would have the fender brace like the B4, and I have the details for that.

Re: Unknow Sidecar Frame, BS?

Henri's has the mounts on the rear frame tube for the dampers, so I guess it is big 4.

Any chance of a better picture of the wheel fitting?

Rob.

Re: Unknow Sidecar Frame, BS?

The Norton chassis usually have a number stamped on the lug that the front mounting tube is bolted too. Ron

Hi Rob, does this help

The sidecar wheel bearing holder looks big enough for the Big4.

Very nice find Henri

Re: Unknow Sidecar Frame, BS?

Yes I thought that bearing looks like B4. If it is, you should see the remains of the splined shaft for the prop shaft. Or can you see any evidence of the mudguard hoops? A shot from above of the whole chassis laid flat would be good. Ron

Fender only for show, not a Norton fender.
