Foot rest removal

Help!! trying to remove the near side foot rest on my M20 but its reluctant to give in. Ive tried WD40, gentle persuation with a mallet and also a bit of heat but dont want to damage the chain case. Am I missing the technique?

Re: Foot rest removal

You could try a small 2 legged puller, try putting a coin in the end of the shaft just to give it something to push against

Re: Foot rest removal

I eventually took a Dremel with a thin cutting disk and made an axial slot on the side of the footrest. It came off easily after that. I then welded up the slot and ground it smooth. While you do this, you need to mutter "f**&ing vintage bikes".

Re: Foot rest removal

Hi Pete,

I'd almost wager the footrest has has a slight bend
in it from a long forgotten dropping of the bike.

Remember, skin grows back, parts cost money.

Re: Foot rest removal

Thanks chaps, a combination of heat, gear puller plus choice words and finally it gave in and yes, looks as though it had been laid down on that peg.
Just the start eh??
