Now, Gramps remembers May 45; among the goodies we received from the Allies were big parcels with everything from corned beef, fruit gums, porridge, powdered tea with milk powder (BLAAAHUUU... ), but also a round tin with screw top. Inside a fuel stand consisting of three legs, not flat but (((, and several round fuel tablets.
Don't remember if it was Brit or 'murrican, but it worked like a charm; fond memories....
when in the army 1960s we had a simlar thing it was like a large tobacco tin the lids opened like 2 door making the the stand the blocks were the same as in your photo it was called hexemane blocks dont know if this is how it is spelt
During my service 1955-57 I was with the Engineers, and especially demolition. During winter we used those small demolition charges nr. 1 to heat our field rations. Of course VERY strictly forbidden, but our instructors were mainly Korea veterans, and they showed us that TNT burns nice and slow, but sooty...
There are at least 3 types Henk..the third one looks like a tin can with a series of holes around the base and a removable lid..it is actually called a Tommy Cooker on the label which details operating instructions...Ian
