Hi Henri...it looks like it could be a prewar B Series gearbox..introduced in 37 I think and fitted to the B Series bikes after the 'rationalisation' of the BSA range. B24, B26, B29, B30 etc. These have the kickstart spring inside the main gearcase, not inside the outer cover. Also there should be a tapped hole in the rear mounting boss to take the centrally mounted gearbox adjuster..can't see that part of the boss in the photos. Fitted across the B range until 1940 and on a few B30s after that. It did not reappear post war but was modified to make the early rigid B31 gearbox....Ian

Thanks Ian, it resembled my XB31 1946 unit but just was not sure. Good to know it can be used for a B30.

Hi Henri..There aren't many B30s around to use it..about 7. It is more likely to find a home in one of the other models listed..but probably not a B29 ..there aren't many of them about either...Ian
