Anybody tried the solid brass petrol lever type i have them on my Sunbeams they don't give a problem look great as well.expensive. that's what you pay for quality.
BSA M20.
Considering the same deal..go brass lever.
Previous fitted.
New Slide type on-off junk that leak after a short period of time even with new corks tried all the tricks still leak think there just crap copies.
Plus had to pean the knob fronts pulled off!unbelievable!
I can understand people being fed up buying substandard parts.
Last article Ian wrote about!
Right-on Greameyboy
Would'nt it be great if you could order parts "On - Approval" betcha the quality of work/machining would be superb,I remember years ago,I restored a Royal Enfield Continental GT,some of the parts I ordered from Hithcocks were, well crap to say the least,so this supplying of poorly made pattern parts has been going on for years.
Right on Tommy, and Dave.
Would of sent them back if they leaked straight away.
Once on the bike its a fiddle especially when leaking.
Drain the tank a bit set it upright remove both taps and inspect etc, brass slides for corks are poor quality slack tolerances etc.
Lesson in buying these pattern parts.
Dont buy them.
Ordered another 2 Brass Taps from Stewart's there plug and play no hassesls look good as well.
Time they outlawed some of that inferior pattern parts.
Suppliers as well,as they should know what the quality should be like!!!
i had some of those brass gas tap type i couldnt stop them leaking even if you did them up tight that you needed a scaffold pole to turn them on and off they stilled leaked
I use modern BAP taps..half the price and twice as good..No leaks at all and when painted satin black they are hardly noticeable. No petrol stains and no buggered up magnetos.(I've had to repair quite a few that gave up after being drip fed petrol)....Ian
I like BAP taps and have used them on Commandos for about 25 years. They're quite long though and 16H owners should be aware that they don't clear the inlet stub.
Have the BAP Taps on one of the BSA like your saying no problems plug and play.
Looks like will be changing them for a pair.
Hate to think it going up in flames, what happened to my mate a few years back with the Triton spat back while starting leaking taps..caught fire in flurry of action trying to get it out..whipped pulled the alloy fuel tank off bike saved, though burnt nuts! funny at the time.
While I like the original look of the push/pull taps, I also cringe at the prospect of a leaking tap and spark fom mag or dyno, or a backfire, turning all my hard work into a smouldering heap.
What thread is the original tap, and what is a good source of the BAP type equivalent taps?
Perhaps for the show season I could fit the originals for looks (since most local shows are indoor/ fuel and battery removed affairs in the winter or early spring)
