Tappet Replacement - A Beginners Question

I have 250 mostly around town miles on my 16H since (among lots of other things) reassembly with almost new rings and with the bore freshly honed.
Unfortunately my exhaust tappet adjuster has proved to be knackered so i need to lift, and possibly remove, the barrel to replace the tappet.
Any comments on whether all should just go back together if i have to pull it completely apart?
After what sort of mileage is a new hone the way to go?
Thanks
Iain

Re: Tappet Replacement - A Beginners Question

Hi Iain...I'm no Norton man but you shouldn't need to rehone the barrels after 250 miles..There aren't any particular problems with the job..it is all straight forward. The tappet just drops in from the top on the Norton. Make sure you have the correct ring clamps for refitting. On the M20 I put a couple of parallel bars under the piston to hold it square whilst lowering the barrel. Oil the piston and ring clamps when you put them on and smear some oil in the bore as well.
Also make sure you have all the necessary new gaskets in hand for the job.
