M20 16 YE 29

Took my G3L for its MOT yesterday and the tester was really interested in the bike and went to dig out a photo of his late dad as a despatch rider on an M20 whilst in Germany. He has marked the photo 1946 and although the census number wasn't on the tank a military number 16 YE 29 had been painted in its place.
I said I would try to find if 1946 would be correct for the photo and more importantly is the bike still in circulation.
If the bike is still about then I can get a copy of the photo for you.

Re: M20 16 YE 29

Pete,

The whole YE series is missing from the Key cards, so cannot look anything up.

The 50's would be a more appropiate date for the picture, as the YD-YC-YE-ZB type of numbers weren't issued till then.

Cheers,

Lex

Re: M20 16 YE 29

as i believe the two numbers two letters two numbers type of registrations came in 1949 so i suppose that i wasnt done in a day so it must have run into the 1950 and some of the letters seem to be age related ie ER didnt come out till the 1960 and BD might from the 1950
