Just change the buttons to plastic brown ones and you have a perfect replica of the leather jerkin used during WW2.

They're not quite the same as British as the leather is tanned with a brown surface finish whereas the British items were the same colour all the way through and just get softer and softer with wear.

My Belgian one has remained as hard as a board, even after years of landscaping in it.

Try to use that fine steel wool, size 0000 and some leather oil, rub it well in, it will soften
