engine number

Hi
Can anyone tell me were the eng Number is on a wm20, Im having a hard time locating it, also what therad is the wm20 Whitworth or unc

Hi Mark...The engine number should be clearly visible. It is located on the left hand side of the crankcase just below the cylinder base and next to the crankcase breather. There are a multitude of threads used on the M20..Whitworth, Cycle Thread, B.A, British Standard Pipe Thread, BSF, non standard Cycle Thread and 14mm spark plug thread. Generally threads into aluminium are Whitworth. Instruments such as the speedo and carb are BA, The cyinder head bolts are BSF, The spark plug is Metric and most of the rest when both threads are ferrous are Cycle Thread in one of its various forms...Ian

I can hardly see any numbers, its just when i finally build it up from bits and want to register it , they will want to know the engine number.
