Triumph gearbox - off topic

Hi all

Has anyone ever come across a triumph pre unit gearbox supported by needle roller bearings internally instead of normal bushes

It was thought it might be a close ratio type used for racing

Any ideas or info ??

Re: Triumph gearbox - off topic

Hi John..I think the 'slick shift' gearboxes fitted to pre unit Triumphs between 1960 and 63 used needle rollers. These were fitted to standard models and were no doubt used in competition as well.
Later unit engines also used needle rollers in the box....Ian

Re: Triumph gearbox - off topic

I seem to recollect finding a few needle rollers in my Triton slick-shift box last time I had it apart. 1961 vintage.
Cheers
Pete

Yes John, the late pre-unit gearbox had needle bearings.
