Sad news. From the BBC .... The last known combat veteran of World War I, Claude Stanley Choules, has died in Australia at the age of 110. Known by his comrades as Chuckles, British-born Mr Choules joined the Royal Navy at the age of 16. He migrated to Australia in the 1920s, served in the military for more than 40 years and had been married to his wife for 80 years. Mr Choules was reported to have died in his sleep at a nursing home in his adopted city of Perth.
Just saw this. I dont find it too sad though. The man seemed to have a great life and lived to be 110.

The death of Claude leave us with just one WW1 veteran, 110 year old Florence Green who served as a waitress with the Women's Royal Air Force. Claude was also the last survinving veteran who served in both world wars.
Yes, Florence is still around and, even though born in London, she's a good old Norfolk Gal. Still full pf life too. Cheers, Mick.
