Gear box inspection cover. which way up?

Hi Lads...

I've head a few conflicting suggestions as to which way up the inner inspection cover goes regarding the cover on the gear box... Looking at the exploded chart on the Draganfly website... Should I take it that this is the correct way up? and is it really important?

I take it that the inner cover is an oil flinger of somesort.

Re: Gear box inspection cover. which way up?

Hi LJ.. the inner cover under the gearbox inspection plate is an oil baffle..it's function is to stop oil being forced past the gasket.
When the gearbox is running the gears on the layshaft run 'backwards' forcing oil towards the lower edge of the gasket.
So the plate is fitted with the open part of the pressing at the lower edge and the curved part following the radius of the gear(s), thus preventing oil being thrown against the inner face of the cover...Ian

Re: Gear box inspection cover. which way up?

Ahh thanks Ian... Never put the idea down to preventing oil getting past the gasket... which the oil was doing also the inner plate was upside down too! Should have a nice oil free BSA B33 now... well... getting that way anyway.

Cheers LJ.
