Re: Wartime Advertizing

I didn't realise Norton were making rash claims for their handling BEFORE the Featherbed frame...maybe it was a bit of humour to raise wartime moral? ...Ian

Re: Wartime Advertizing

I think they were all at it and from surprisingly early in the war. Talking of Victory when we had trouble holding our own....

Here's a few more.

I'm surprised that anybody would put an opium den in their advertising, perhaps riding an AJS was like taking a drug trip.

More tomorrow.

Re: Wartime Advertizing

These are all scanned from some magazines I purchased recently. They are all scanned at 600Dpi and come up quite large. If any body wants to print & frame or otherwise use these pictures, feel free to do so.

Re: Wartime Advertizing

In one of the issues there is an article about Base Workshops, which I know will interest a few folk on here. Some time over the weekend I will attempt to scan it down. Hopefully the magazine will survive the process as the paper is very poor quality (wartime quality) and won't take too much handling. I also have an article about the Bar-none racing which I may do later.
They don't cost much, but it is nice to share good fortune.

I have the same problem with a collection of WW2 underground newspapers and other documents. They have to be de-acidified which is a costly business. But unless you do it, they will completely disintegrate before long

Re: Wartime Advertizing

i see there are not many adds for BSA as they sell themselves you cant get a better bike

Re: Wartime Advertizing

quite right. BSA is good enough to sell by word of mouth.
