See, I thought "sex" in the title would grab your attention !!!
If you are able, try your best to grab hold, or sight of, the wartime film "The Gentle Sex" (it is available on DVD with a bit of effort)....
Made during WW2, it is the definitive film of the ATS...
Ever so slightly cheesed-up for the public, is does portray a fairly accurate picture of a group of young ladies meeting up, joining the ATS, getting kitted-out, bonding, etc....
Best of all, it features a convoy, escorted by ATS on WD-C's (??)...but is overall just ever so damn good....
Guess it should remind us all of the significant part the female service played in the war, whether a cook, driver, mechanic or DR....
Brilliant film!, first saw a snippet of it at the old army transport museum at Beverley years ago. I pestered staff there until they found out what the film was.
Recently got a copy from Amazon for peanuts.
Well worth watching.
Cheers, Mick.
The Title Certainly Attracted My Attention to the point where a google search found it was available for free download at http://www.archive.org/details/TheGentleSex1943
A great film with a couple of outstanding lines.
1. "I forgot that despatch rider was a girl"
2. "They Probably Stopped to have their Hair Waved"
