Re: Fred Hill & Singles Day at the Ace (UK) 13th Feb
The oversea riders may not know this name, so can I pass on some of Freds story to them.
Fred had been a WW2 despatch rider. When helmets wearing was made compulsory in Great Britain, Fred fought tooth and nail for the rest of his life to have the law repealed, because he saw compulsion as an infringment of our liberty.
At the time most of us saw helmet wearing as sensible and saw Fred as a bit of a crazy eccentric fighting a lost cause. But as we see so many of our freedoms whittled away by sucesesive governmants, I think Fred may have been a visionary.
As Kit says, a DR with proper spirit who kept fighting what he saw as wrong, right up to his end.
Read his name again and remember---- Fred Hill, despatch rider
