M20 rearwheel with fixed spindel ??

Hi, does anyone recognise this type of rearwheel? it looks very similair than the WD type but hasn't got the knock out spindel. First I thought it was a DIY job but at closer look it looks original to me. Anyone any idea ??. I though maybe prewar before the QD-type. I would like to take it further apart but it has to stay in the WD40 for a while.... Regards, Michiel

Re: M20 rearwheel with fixed spindel ??

Michiel,

This is a pre war QD wheel. The spigot for the brake drum has a threaded hole at the rear. The knockout spindle screws in the back of the spigot.

Re: M20 rearwheel with fixed spindel ??

Thanks Leon,

I studied the partlist of 1939 and found out this type of construction was used in the G14, but the G14 had 18 inch rims whilst this one has a 19 inch rim.

Could it be from a 37-38 M-type or maybe other/earlier models?? In 1939 the M-types used the later knock-out type already. Or could it be that the G14 used 19 inch rims as well.....?

Re: M20 rearwheel with fixed spindel ??

Michiel,

According to the 1938 parts list it was in use on the M group models. I have the same type of spindle on my 1936 Empire Star.
