Mechanics Institute Fire

Now that we can identify two of the Beat Squad who played at the final fatal (for the Municipal Hall) dance,Roger Manton and Bruce Russell, I would like to confess that (providing my memory is working correctly) the dance was organized by the NSF Social Club, based at Ingrow Bridge.
I was, at the time, a member of the Social Club Management Committee and remember watching in horror from Albert Street, the following morning as the fire brigade continued fighting the flames.
Our web site has some excellent photographs of the fire taken from the outside, but due to our friendly link with the Keighley and Local History Society
on http://www.simplesite.com/Keighleyhistory/6795710

Their web master (should it be mistress?) Jan Perkins has kindly given her permission for the KBGS to use one of her own personal photographs taken inside the the hall, approximately below the clock tower.

By using the enlargement facility on the cursor it is possible to highlight in finite detail any selected area of the said photograph.
So much so, that the features of the firemen and even the crowd watching from outside the Regent Cinema are brought clearly to view.

After 47 years are these people identifiable by any of our browsers ??

Re: Mechanics Institute Fire

A superb photo, despite the circumstances. Excellent detail of the architecture and, as you say Derek, of the onlookers and vehicles outside. Well done for obtaining it!
