Campsite review

One of the nicest sites we have been to, just perfect for us. Dogs are allowed, no extra charge and no noisy kids, sorry parents, don't hate kids just don't want to go on holiday with someone elses. Peaceful site and very small, great showers, plenty of hot water and always clean. The tent pitches are in their own field away from the caravans and the pitches along the back hedge are level with great views. Nices touches include freezer for ice block and use of a microwave. The shop keeps essentials like fresh milk, but also lots of goodies. The owners were very helpful and welcoming, give you enough info without being overpowering, would definitely return when in the area again. Fabulous walking, would recommend the 9 mile walk round Wimbleball Lake and good eating pub close by.

Lowtrow Cross adult camping and caravan site
stayed at this small adult only site over May bank holiday weekend. Site fairly busy on Saturday, buy started to empty slowly over Sunday and Monday, we left on Tuesday. The site is very quiet except for the dawn chorus and local sheep, fantastic vistas from the camping field, looking out across rolling countryside and a small farm on the other side of the valley (watching the farmer round up his flock in the evenings kept us entertained). The wildlife to be spotted around the surrounding countryside was a joy, this included a barn owl that came out just after sunset each evening and scanned the adjoining fields for prey, this happened two nights in succession, the area has many good walks some with jaw dropping views (top of Haddon Hill looking out over Wimblehall Lake being our favourite). We found all the other campers to be friendly and the general atmosphere was very relaxed which was openly encouraged by the wardens who were always around to help with any queries but never intrusive, they usually walked around the site in the evening for a chat stopping off at every pitch to ensure everything was OK. The small site shop stayed open till dusk and the honesty box indicated what sort of site this was, the washing and toilet facilities were kept spotlessly clean, as was the whole site in general. I highly recommend this campsite if you are looking for a peaceful quiet stay where there is no mobile phone signal, a genuine English countryside pub at the entrance and friendly helpful staff, if you prefer your sites with swimming pool, club house and entertainment this site is not for you.

We also stayed at thie site in May for a week.

The caravan pitches which are all hard standing are sloping but the site provide blocks for your legs so it didnt cause an issue, and as there is no chance of getting a TV signal it is good that the site offers ariel points for each pitch (and also can hire a lead to connect to it if you need one the reception then was perfect with all the freeview channels possible).

It is a quiet site, with little or no disturbance (as it is adults only this may help) the facilities and modern and well laid out with large shower rooms and plenty of hot water, these are cleaned each day to a high standard.

The on-site shop is very well stocked and also works on an "honesty" basis, there was always enough change for any transaction.

There is also a dog walking area next to the tent field which can be used if you dont want to try the many local walks in the area.

Would we go again.... YES!
