Most Christians: "running in circles" (Talented Mr. Ripley); "His Glory Appears"

"FOR YOUR DISCERNMENT!!!"

Last night, I watched a movie that is definitely non-Christian, BUT,
amazingly powerful and, to me, has a "redemptive" theme only if
you can take it in. I had seen it before and thought my mother might
enjoy it. It was SO POWERFUL that you "want" the evil to win. My
mother had to leave early because she didn't want the lead character
to get caught even though he was VERY cunning, crafty (which is,
incredibly, the way most of us watch this):

The Talented Mr. Ripley (film)

Tom Ripley is a young psychopath struggling to make a living
in 1950s New York City using his "talents"—forgery, lying and
impersonation. While working at a party, he is approached by the
wealthy shipbuilder Herbert Greenleaf, who believes that Ripley
went to Princeton with his son, Dickie. Greenleaf recruits Ripley
to travel to Italy to persuade Dickie to return home to the United
States, for which he will pay Ripley $1000. Ripley accepts the
proposal, though he did not really go to Princeton and has never
even met Dickie.

In his review for The New York Observer, Andrew Sarris wrote,
"On balance, The Talented Mr. Ripley is worth seeing more for
its undeniably delightful journey than its final destination.
Perhaps wall-to-wall amorality and triumphant evil leave too sour
an aftertaste even for the most sophisticated anti-Hollywood palate".

Roger Ebert gave the film four-out-of-four stars, calling it "an
intelligent thriller" that is "insidious in the way it leads us to identify
with Tom Ripley ... He's a monster, but we want him to get away with it".

In his review for The Guardian, Peter Bradshaw wrote, "The Talented
Mr. Ripley begins as an ingenious exposition of the great truth about
charming people having something to hide: namely, their utter reliance
on others. It ends up as a dismayingly unthrilling thriller and bafflingly
unconvincing character study.

This "may" sound ridiculous, but, think about it..............

The ONLY people who can actually FACE this movie, in reality,
would be those whom the Spirit has removed the shame of the
reality of sin in our lives.

Romans 8 (NKJV)

Free from Indwelling Sin

1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in
Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according
to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made
me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do
in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son
in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in
the flesh, 4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled
in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

At the VERY beginning of the movie, Tom Ripley (played by Matt
Damon), is saying, "If I could only go back....". You have to watch
the VERY beginning and put that in your mind FIRST because the
ending comes AFTER he has committed his 3rd murder in order
to keep the "ruse" of his life going. And even during the movie, he
asks the question (while seeming unable to control himself in his
incredibly "fake" lifestyle), "Wouldn't it be nice if we could just
ERASE the demons from our life or just put them in a room and
lock them away!?"

I'm NOT so sure that Christians don't do EXACTLY THE SAME
THING (in, of course, more subtle ways). People who do NOT
"walk after the Spirit" can be quite "hard" ("MURDER" in a way)
in order to quiet those that do try to listen to the Spirit!!!

FLESH VS. SPIRIT all day long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If we're honest, the ONLY reason that Jesus might be delaying
His return is so that "CHRISTIANS" could "GET THINGS STRAIGHT
WITH HIS SPIRIT" before He shows up!

I "KNOW" He has been working on me and I "WANT" to be sure
to be READY!!! Are we just "going in circles" / "making excuses"
over the same old sins / weaknesses?

Personally, I believe the signs are out there and we are SO VERY
CLOSE!!!!!! So, here is a song (taken from her playlist), which,
