FSPB CAPE

I am making a documentary about water supply and well drilling in SVN 1967-71. (Infantrymen, try not to get too excited.) On 11 Nov 69, during Operation Kings Cross, a well drilling rig was airlifted into FSPB Cape to drill for water. It was flown out again on 21 Nov 69.

Is there anybody out there who was in FSPB Cape at the time who can explain why it was felt necessary to drill for water? In most other places, water was flown in in large rubber bladders. Why not at Cape?

Grateful for any help.
