The forum picture is of an early contra Matchless G3L in use by the airborne forces. It is not a first contract bike but still has some of the early features like front ribbed mudguard and short rear mudguard and metal M tank badges. However, unlike first contract bikes it now has a front stand fitted instead of just mudguard stays. However, the holes in the mudguard for the stay bolts can clearly be seen. I am sure that others will fill in the contract details from the C number. Any ideas where the photo was taken? Cheers, John
Don't know where it was taken but it is part of the Imperial War Museum collection, so the answer may be on their site. I have had a copy of this since the 60's as I used to live (virtually) in the war museum as I lived not too far away (Brixton).
