wheel bearing cups?

Hi all...I like the bike photo,s of I guess, your Normandy Rally. You are lucky to have such a strong club over there.

My question. Could someone please tell me what to do when the bearing cups sit loose in the wheel housing? The ones I took out where tight, but the replacements sit loose. The replacement are the correct size, I think its just years of where and tear.

Re: wheel bearing cups?

Hi Bryce,

If the bearings that you took out were tight,
Then the new ones cannot be loose, unless the old ones took
Some material with them as it went out (?)

You can look at the technical section of the forum and see what
Are the correct bearings you need,
You can also measure and compare the OD of the old and new bearings
Using a sliding caliper and see if there is any difference..

Noam.

Re: wheel bearing cups?

Hi Bryce
Noam is correct, if the old ones were tight, barring the possibility that they were corroded in place, the new ones should also be a tight fit if correct.
There are a few retaining liquids that can be used to lock up a sliding fit, but a proper engineered solution is always best so do check the bearing first and if the hub is worn badly, possibly look at a repair to that by a competent engineer first.
If you must use a bearing retainer anaerobic adhesive, then stay with either Loctite brand or Permabond as they are by far the best.

Good Luck
Darren
