WM20 cylinder head steady bar.

Is this bar absolutely necessary? The main engine mounting plates look very
substantial. The reason for asking is that its position gets right in the way of a vertical outlet for the fuel tap, meaning the right hand tap has to
have a horizontal outlet.
Any advice?

Brooky.

Re: WM20 cylinder head steady bar.

Hi Brooky,do you really think Bsa (Val Page) would have put it there for a laugh.
make sure it is positioned correctly, then it will not interfere with anything

Re: WM20 cylinder head steady bar.

It doesn't interfere with my taps. Maybe you have the wrong steady bar and fitted to the wrong head bolt? Ron

Re: WM20 cylinder head steady bar.

Aha! Thanks Ron. You're dead right. Mine is fitted to the wrong head bolt.
That's going to make life so much easier. I hadn't even considered that as a possibility, although I do wonder why the rearmost fixing bolt eye on the steady bar is slotted, rather than being just a circular hole. I guess to allow for marginal differences in engine position in the main mountings.

Thanks again Ron.

Re: WM20 cylinder head steady bar.

The head steady 'triangulates' the frame/engine structure to stiffen it...

M20s (and no doubt others) vibrate a lot more if it's left off, or even if you don't tighten the frame bolt up fully...Ian
