Yes...

out of 150 tracks, 16% include a female of some sort- that actually may be larger than a number of lists.

Re: Yes...

haha, could be.

Actually it's more than that. I forgot about Patty Scialfa in the E Street Band, Sally Timms in the Mekons, plus Wendy and Lisa in The Revolution.

This list rocks!

Re: 120-101...

I'm really liking this list. It's a great mix of critically underrated songs (including lots of album tracks that don't usually make these lists), solid pop hits, and the usual suspects.

Re: 120-101...

43 (I think) of those songs were in the Pitchfork 500, I noticed that because of a few lesser known songs in both lists (Cities in Dust, Blue Boy, Problèmes d'Amour, the Classical...)
I noticed that too with the 90s song, I might be wrong but if Pitchfork helped take some obscure gems out of anonymity, that's fine for me !

Re: 120-101...

Let's hope Sweet Child O Mine can crack 20.

50-21...

50. New Order - "True Faith"
49. Tears for Fears - "Everybody Wants to Rule the World"

Re: 50-21...

This list is awesome,it's got to be the best 80s list I've seen. Have they done/are they going to do an 80s albums list as well?

Re: 50-21...

JR

44. Blondie - "Call Me"
34. New Order - "Temptation"
30. The Cure - "A Forest"

Wow!

Re: 50-21...

Good stuff. You hardly ever see "Jockey Full of Bourbon," "You Made Me Realize," or "Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos" on songs lists. I thought "Once in a Lifetime" would have been a surefire top 10 pick.

"Love Will Tear Us Apart" or one of the big Smiths songs is my guess for the top spot.

Re: Treble: The Top 200 Songs of the 80s

The top 20 is up! Definitely heavy on the alternative favorites! I like this list overall, but boo to no "1999" or "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)".

Re: Treble: The Top 200 Songs of the 80s

Great top 20! Good to see all New Order's big 5 singles crack the top 50(as they should). Great to see a largely alternative list rate 'Everybody Wants To Rule The World' highly. As for the Cure,I think In Between Days should be swapped with Just Like Heaven on the list. A deserved #1 though...

I'm thrilled that "A Forest" placed so well! I wish "Lovesong" had made it in, too. Overall, it's a pretty nice list.

Re: Treble: The Top 200 Songs of the 80s

Where the is Sweet Child O' Mine???????????
How the can you not have that song in a TOP 200 of the 80's????? It's THE SONG of the 80's!!

Acts With Multiple Entries...

I think I got them all- 44 acts have multiple entries on this list- and they account for 119 of the 200- a whopping 59.5% of the list.

If we combined Joy Division/New order, that would give that entity eight tracks. And, adding Morrissey to The Smiths would give that entity seven.

5 Tracks (5)
New Order
The Pixies
Prince
R.E.M.
The Smiths

4 Tracks (4)
The Cure
Depeche Mode
Talking Heads
U2

3 Tracks (8)
David Bowie
Duran Duran
Peter Gabriel
Joy Division
Madonna
Public Enemy
Bruce Springsteen
Tears For Fears

2 Tracks (27)
The Beat
Kate Bush
Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds
The Chameleons
The Clash
Elvis Costello and The Attractions
Devo
The Fall
Go-Go's
Hüsker Dü
Michael Jackson
The Jam
The Jesus and Mary Chain
Loose Joints
Liquid Liquid
Mission of Burma
Morrissey
Nine Inch Nails
Orange Juice
The Police
Psychadelic Furs
The Replacements
Siouxsie and the Banshes
Split Endz

Almost my own top 20

Just Like Honey

Re: Treble: The Top 200 Songs of the 80s

I think The Cure actually have 5 entries (#'s 154,150,70,30,8) & The Jam 3 (#'s 116,88,14)

Indeed...

you are correct, RBob. Must have thought I had all entries and neglected to include one for each. Thanks for checking that. :)

So, that makes 44 acts that account for 121 of the top 200- 60.5% of the list.

Re: Treble: The Top 200 Songs of the 80s

Jackson

18. Talking Heads - "This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)"

I was surprised to see this song is not even bubbling under. If this list is included in the next update, what are the chances it is bubbling under/in the top 3000?

Strangely, this song has only been included in the Pitchfork 500 and now this list, so I still don't think that warrants an inclusion at AM...

And in AM top 200 of the 80s, 33 artists count for exactly 50% of the songs (considering that Grandmaster Flash counts for one whether he is with Melle Mel or the Furious Five)

I'm surprised the Cure only have one song in AM top 200 of the 80s.
