The Simpsons poll: RESULTS

RESULTS

Here it is, the moment that has had you all holding your breath for the last, well, since you opened this post probably…

Before I start, two things:
1) A big thank you to those who voted, you’ve made this poll really fun to do. I am kind of disappointed that there weren’t more, but then this is essentially a forum for music (and films), so it was never going to be a massive turnout.
2) I now fully appreciate the work done by those running the bigger polls and contests, e.g. songs, albums, artists, films. Whilst it is extremely enjoyable it can get monotonous, and although I never had much trouble, there being only four voters, and I can understand how much work goes into the ones dealing with bigger numbers.

Anyway, here come the results, so get comfortable, sit back and enjoy your favourite moments from America’s favourite family.

The Simpsons poll: RESULTS

These are results from ballots posted by four people:

BillAdama
nj
Guy
Zorg

I’ll now count down the top twenty episodes, and post the full results list and individual ballots afterwards.

Well let’s get cracking. And a one, and a two, and a three, bom bom bom bom…

‘A God who agrees with Homer Simpson, diminishing the entire religion of Hinduism to “miscellaneous”, what could be more faith-affirming?’

Note: In the event of two or more episodes being level on points, the higher/-est ranking episode will be decided on

2) If there is still a tie, the sum of all of each episode’s vote position numbers (lowest wins)

‘The episode that made foregrounding groundbreaking. From The Grinch to Yellow Submarine, every piece to the jigsaw puzzle that is art gets its own five seconds.’

Trivia: The role of dentist Dr. Wolfe is probably the unluckiest in the history of the show. Turned down first by Anthony Hopkins and then by Clint Eastwood, Anthony Perkins died soon after agreeing to guest star, meaning that multi-vocal Hank Azaria had to fill in.

Re: The Simpsons poll: RESULTS

Yay! Thought the Barbershop Quartet episode would do higher, given the Beatles references.

Re: The Simpsons poll: RESULTS

No one didn't vote pretty generously for Barbershop. It just doesn't seem to be among people's favourites. Maybe it's the straight parody as opposed to subtler satirical jibes of some of the higher ranked episodes.

Trivia: Hank Scorpio was originally to return in The Simpsons Movie, but the writers instead opted for a new villain, and Brooks voiced EPA chief Russ Cargill.

Re: The Simpsons poll: RESULTS

Well, there’s your Top 20. Before the poll, after seeing the nominations, I backed Homer’s Enemy, and Homer the Great gave it a good run for it’s money for a while, but it seems a great guest appearance in a strange town won it in the end for You Only Move Twice.

Sorry it wasn’t quite the suspense-filled roller coaster spanning several days that results of other polls are. The whole thing was kind of badly organised and rushed, but I hope you enjoyed it all the same.

Thanks again for voting, it’s been great

Re: The Simpsons poll: RESULTS

Again, sorry I haven't taken more time in revealing the results, especially to those of you who probably haven't even had chance to view the post yet. I just really haven't got any more time.

Re: The Simpsons poll: RESULTS

This one will remain as one of the very few gems in AMF's POLLution sphere... thanks a lot for this little sugar list, Guy, and sorry, it's not in packages..

Re: The Simpsons poll: RESULTS

Good poll, despite the lack of participation.

I thought you had to give every episode progressively less than the last, or else my ballot would have looked more like Zorg's.

Nice reference there nj

Want some cream with that?

Sorry, BillAdama. I didn't expect anyone to tie episodes for positions; I probably should have said that you're allowed to do that in the rules.

Re: The Simpsons poll: RESULTS

When you first suggested the poll, I said that I prefered Family Guy. Now after watching around 25 wonderful episodes, my mind has completely changed. The Simpsons is the first, and the most groundbreaking. Thanks!

Re: The Simpsons poll: RESULTS

Guy, I have to say thanks for running this poll. It enabled me to discover "Homer Badman" which is certainly the most "smart funny" episode of any TV show I've ever seen.

Re: The Simpsons poll: RESULTS

Just glad I could help. I have to say that this poll has had the same effect on me. Having trawled through dozens of episodes, their scripts and trivia, all the pieces of literary nouse, pop culture, satire, warmth and above all realism add up to pure genius which may never be replicated on a television screen.

I love the deliberately bad editing for that splice. So Fox News.
