1. The Doors (all time rank #9)
2. Pink Floyd (all time rank #12)
3. The Jimi Hendrix Experience (all time rank #18)
4. Grateful Dead (somewhere outside my top 100)
I really need to listen to some more Dead.
As for the others, I love them all dearly.
1. The Jimi Hendrix Experience (personal 3rd)
2. The Doors
3. Pink Floyd
4. Grateful Dead
I'm not a huge fan but I like a lot of floyd and doors. Jimi Hendrix is the reason I'm posting here. Purple Haze blew open the doors of my mind and forced me to get into quality music.
To be honest, I've not heard full catalogues of any of these 4 so this is based on what I know of them.
1) Jimi Hendrix Experience-Loved ARE YOU EXPERIENCED? and AXIS: BOLD AS LOVE (on the 'to buy' list). Liked ELECTRIC LADYLAND. Haven't heard the others yet.
2) The Doors- Love THE DOORS and L.A. WOMAN (on the 'to buy' list), own the 2CD anthology. Need to hear the others.
3) Pink Floyd- Loved DARK SIDE and THE WALL. Liked the one with the Easter Island cover well enough to buy but I really haven't played it in awhile. Didn't care much for MEDDLE or ANIMALS. Leaning toward liking PIPER..have to hear it some more times.
4) Grateful Dead- Have only really heard some radio tracks and WORKINGMAN'S DEAD (which I liked).
1. Jimi - A legend. He is hovering around #7 all time, and it will be a long time before anyone does what he did again for the electric guitar.
2. Floyd - Love DSOTM, Like everything else (of what I've heard)
3. Doors - I'm not a huge fan of their long psychedelic songs but the singles are great.
4. Dead - Never got into.
Moonbeam, I highly recommend you try to get into Jimi. You won't be dissapointed. I know you're a Prince fan, and Prince was certainly influenced by Jimi both musically and image-wise. A lot of the funk and sexuality in Prince's work can be seen in Hendrix. Also his recording are pretty diverse, so even if you don't likee some, there are others you may enjoy. If Voodoo Child is too hard, than maybe you'd prefer All Along the Watchtower or some of his bluesier stuff.
