I would like to talk about some great instrumental rock songs. There's the obvious ones:
Booker T & The MG's - Green Onions
The Ventures - Walk Don't Run
Link Wray - Rumble
The Shadows - Apache....
What are your some of your favorites that some of us might not have heard before?
Is This Music?- Teenage Fanclub
Bewilderbeast- Badly Drawn Boy
Shad Thames- Saint Etienne
Frosti- Bjork
most of the instrumentals of the Go! Teams debut are faves of mine as well
i just heard this song the other day:
the rolling stones - 2120 south michigan avenue
....and I agree with benny b, lyrics are overrated. Not that I don't like some lyrics, but overall, they can make a song be misinterpretted, heard wrong. A lot of people don't even bother listening to them. All I'm saying is a good intrumental cut can be refreshing.
Jimmy Flint and the Stones "Have You been There?" (sax driven loose "party rock" sound, early 60s I believe. I have this on a 45 that came in one of those "grab bag" boxes they used to sell.)
Hugh Masekela "Grazing in the Grass" (cowbell-driven number)
