Your favourite album stretches

Reading the thread about The Rolling Stones I started thinking about my favourite album stretches and here they are. What are your favourites?

2 albums: Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon & Wish You Were Here
3 albums: Massive Attack - Blue Lines, Protection & Mezzanine
4 albums: The Cure - Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds, Faith & Pornography
5 albums: The Beatles - Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's, Magical Mystery Tour & White Album
6 albums: Bob Marley - Soul Revolution, Catch a Fire, Burnin', Natty Dread, Rastaman Vibration & Exodus

Note: I counted both Magical Mystery Tour and Yellow Submarine (but not Yesterday and Today). This made this more interesting (otherwise Beatles would have my favourite stretches from 4 albums and onwards). Other than that, I did not cheat to get in five different artists in my list, this is how evenly great these artists are in my book.

Re: Your favourite album stretches

2 Albums: The Beatles - Revolver and Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band
3 Albums: Bob Dylan - Bringing it All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited, Blond on Blond
4 Albums: The Velvet Undergroud - VU&N, WL/WH, VU, Loaded
5 Albums: Radiohead - OK Computer, Kid A, Amnesiac, Hail to the Thief, In Rainbows
6 Albums: Led Zeppelin - I, II, II, IV, Houses of the Holy, Physical Graffity

It was a toss up on 6 albums between Zeppelin and Marley but I'm in more of a rock mood than a reggae mood.

Re: Your favourite album stretches

There will be some surprises on my list. I know a ton more about newer music, so that's where my list will slant (I think, at least).

2 Albums: The National - Boxer, Alligator
3 Albums: Radiohead - The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A
4 Albums: The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's, Magical Mystery Tour, The White Album, Abbey Road
5 Albums: The Beatles - Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's, Magical Mystery Tour, The White Album, Abbey Road
6 Albums: The Beatles - Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's, Magical Mystery Tour, The White Album, Abbey Road

So it turns out that my list was just Beatles dominated instead (and I probably won't be alone)...

Re: Your favourite album stretches

2 - Dylan (Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61)
3 - Dylan (Bringing It, 61, Blonde on Blonde)
4 - Dylan (Bringing It, 61, Blonde, John Wesley Harding)
5 - Kinks (Face To Face, Something Else, Village Green, Arthur, Lola vs. The Powerman)
6 - Kinks (Face To Face, Something Else, Village Green, Arthur, Lola, Muswell Hillbillies)

Re: Your favourite album stretches

2 albums: Lupe Fiasco- Food & Liquor,The cool
3 albums: The Doors- The Doors, Strange Days, Waiting for the Sun
4 albums: Velvet Underground- VU & Nico, White Light/White Heat, VU, Loaded
5 Albums:Pink Floyd- Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall, The Final Cut
6 Albums: Radiohead- The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A, Amnesiac, Hail to the Thief, In Rainbows

Re: Your favourite album stretches

Some of these aren't necessarily my favorite streaks, but I chose them for the sake of diversity:

2 albums: Isn't Anything; Loveless - My Bloody Valentine
3 albums: 77, More Songs About Building And Food, Fear Of Music - Talking Heads
4 albums: Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited, Blonde on Blonde, John Wesley Harding - Bob Dylan
5 albums: Goodbye and Hello, Happy Sad, Blue Afternoon, Lorca, Starsailor
6 albums: The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A, Amnesiac, Hail To The Thief, In Rainbows - Radiohead

The last one = and counting.

Re: Your favourite album stretches

Oops, for my 5 album streak, the artist is Tim Buckley

Re: Your favourite album stretches

No big surprises from me!

2 albums: Prince- Controversy and 1999
3 albums: Eurythmics- Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This), Touch and 1984: For the Love of Big Brother
4 albums: Prince- Dirty Mind, Controversy, 1999 and Purple Rain
5 albums: Prince- 1999, Purple Rain, Around the World in a Day, Parade and Sign o' the Times
6 albums: Prince- 1999, Purple Rain, Around the World in a Day, Parade, Sign o' the Times and Lovesexy

Re: Your favourite album stretches

Can not make a choice for the streak of 2 albums...

3 albums : Puppetmastaz - Creature Funk/Creature Shock Radio / The Takeover (favourite : Creature Funk)
4 albums : Elliott Smith - Roman Candle/Self Titled/ Either/or / XO (fav : Either/Or)
5 albums : Queens of the Stone Age - Self titled / Rated R / Songs for the Deaf / Lullabies to Paralyze / Era Vulgaris (fav : Songs for the Deaf)
6 albums : Beastie Boys - Ill Communication / Paul's Boutique / Check Your Head / Licensed to Ill / Hello Nasty / To the five borroughs (fav : Paul's Boutique)

I enjoy more my 4 albums streak than any other artist's full discography, but I don't like Figure 8 much... (If I can jump figure 8 and include New Moon, you have my new favourite 6 albums streak ^^ )

Re: Your favourite album stretches

P.S. : replace streak by stretch in the previous message ^^

Re: Your favourite album stretches

Bear in mind that I'm only just starting to get into more "sophisticated" artists, so a lot of what I've got here is because of what I listened to in high school and the few years since...

2 albums: Radiohead - The Bends; OK Computer (sorry, but "Kid A" didn't grab me)

3 albums: Dave Matthews Band - Under the Table and Dreaming; Crash; Before These Crowded Streets (if only they had released "Busted Stuff" instead of "Everyday"...)

4 albums: Massive Attack - Blue Lines; Protection; Mezzanine; 100th Window (yes, I liked 100th Window)

5 albums: Elton John - Elton John; Tumbleweed Connection; 11-17-70; Madman Across the Water; Honky Château (would've been a longer streak, but I've never liked "Don't Shoot Me...")

6 albums: Tracy Chapman - Tracy Chapman; Crossroads; Matters of the Heart;
New Beginning; Telling Stories; Let It Rain (still need to pick up her two most recent ones)

Re: Your favourite album stretches

2 albums:
outkast - stankonia, speakerboxxx / the love below
(pixies a VERY close second and neil young a close third)
3 albums: jimi hendrix - are you experienced, axis: bold as love, electric ladyland
4 albums:
i can't think of one :(
5 albums:
nirvana - bleach, nevermind, incesticide, in utero, MTV unplugged in new york
6 albums:
Radiohead - the bends, ok computer, kid a, amnesiac, hail to the thief, in rainbows

Re: Your favourite album stretches

2. Bob Dylan - Exile On Main St, Sticky Fingers
3. Bob Dylan - Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited, Blonde On Blonde
4. Radiohead - The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A, Amnesiac
5. Beatles - Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Pepper, White Album, Abbey Road (Though you have to be charitable and not count Magical Mystery Tour )
6. Joni Mitchell - Ladies Of The Canyon, Blue, For The Roses, Court & Spark, Hissing Of Summer Lawns, Hejira

I had trouble thinking of a good 6. Elvis Costello's run is bumped by Almost Blue, Neil Young has these random weaker albums scattered in his catalog, Dylan is great in phases, and practically noone has six great albums period.

Re: Your favourite album stretches

Err, make that Rolling Stones for the 2.

Re: Your favourite album stretches

So there _was_ a thread about this a year and a half ago and, no surprise, it was inspired by a Rolling Stones discussion then as well. At the time, schleuse did the math and found that, based on the AM rankings, the Rolling Stones' stretch was the most acclaimed four album stretch of all time. There were some pretty good suggestions in that thread as well, so you should check it out.

Re: Your favourite album stretches

Well, this is going to be slightly boring.

2: Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited (Dylan)
3: Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited, Blonde on Blonde (Dylan)
4: Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile On Main St. (Rolling Stones)
5: Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited, Blonde on Blonde, John Wesley Harding, Nashville Skyline (Dylan)
6: Born To Run, Darkness On The Edge Of Town, The River, Nebraska, Born In The U.S.A., Tunnel Of Love (Springsteen)

Dylan comes in 2nd for both the 4 and 6-stretches. This is not counting live albums, or the Stones might take the 5-stretch as well.

Re: Your favourite album stretches

6-Bruce Spingsteen: E Street Shuffle, Born to Run, Darkness on the Edge of Town, The River, Nebraska, Born in the USA
5-The Beatles: Help!, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper, Magical Mystery Tour

4-Beck: Sea Change, Guero, The Information, Modern Guilt (am I the only one who likes his later work than his 90s stuff?)

3-The Decemberists: Castaways and Cutouts, Her Majesty, Picuresque
3-Herbie Hancock: Empyrean Isles, Maiden Voyage, Speak Like A Child

3-Miles Davis: Kind of Blue, Sketches of Spain, Someday my Prince Will Come
3-Nick Drake: Fire Leaves Left, Bryter Layter, Pink Moon

Re: Your favourite album stretches

Am I the only one who finds Dave Matthews' voice really embellished?

Thought I'd post some runners up.

5: Elvis Costello - My Aim Is True, This Year's Model, Armed Forces, Get Happy, Trust
4: Beck - Odelay, Mutations, Midnite Vultures, Sea Change
4: Sleater Kinney - Dig Me Out, All Hands On The Band One, One Beat, The Woods
4: Bjork - Debut, Post, Homogenic, Vespertine
4: Velvet Underground - (You know the four)
3: White Stripes - De Stijl, White Blood Cells, Elephant
3: Bob Dylan - Time Out Of Mind, Love And Theft, Modern Times
3: Belle & Sebastian - Tigermilk, If You're Feeling Sinister, Boy With The Arab Strap

Too many great 2 stretches

Re: Your favourite album stretches

Good call on Wire, frank, except that I also love 154, so I'd actually put them as one of my favorite 3 album stretches, not 2.
