masters and students

Mc Cartney, Dylan, Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Brian Wilson, Bruce Springsteen... each one picked a song of his and a young artist to perform it for a benefit album (for War Child organisation, who supplies aid for children in countries in war)
I thought it would be intersting for us to see the links between the generations :

1. Beck ‘Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat’ (Bob Dylan)
2. Scissor Sisters ‘Do The Strand’ (Roxy Music)
3. Lily Allen ‘Straight To Hell’ (The Clash)
4. Duffy ‘Live And Let Die’ (Paul McCartney)
5. Elbow ‘Running To Stand Still’ (U2)
6. TV On The Radio ‘Heroes’ (David Bowie)
7. Hot Chip ‘Transmission’ (Joy Division)
8. Estelle ‘Superstition’ (Stevie Wonder)
9. Rufus Wainwright ‘Wonderful/Song For Children’ (Brian Wilson)
10. Peaches ‘Search And Destroy’ (Iggy Pop)
11. The Hold Steady ‘Atlantic City’ (Bruce Springsteen)
12. The Kooks ‘Victoria’ (The Kinks)
13. The Like ‘You Belong To Me’ (Elvis Costello)
14. Yeah Yeah Yeahs ‘Sheena Is A Punk Rocker’ (The Ramones)
15. Franz Ferdinand ‘Call Me’ (Blondie)
+ un bonus track : Mark Ronson 'View To A Kill’ (Duran Duran)

Cover art is by ex-Stone Roses John Squire.
Record will be out in february

Re: masters and students

The Hold Steady and "Atlantic City" sounds so good on paper that it I'm sure it will have to disappoint.

Re: masters and students

Pretty good, apart from The Kinks, who have chosen a band who are only any use if you've got some blankets that need wetting.

Re: masters and students

I saw Beck perform Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat in Toronto, back in October. It was pretty kick-ass.
