Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

Pretty sure this is already included...

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

No, I just checked under Arcade fire - Funeral and it didnt show it. Its half decent list. It would be a shame to waste it.

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

This list was originally posted in December of '07 (thread here: http://pub37.bravenet.com/forum/3172289350/show/779382). It's almost certainly one of the lists that Henrik is planning to incorporate into the next update.

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

Kool...I just thought that everything had been updated already. Sol good

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

Uh...no, it's not going to be included. It's that "genre-specific list from a non-genre magazine" exclusion criterion again.

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

Sorry! I misread your last post in that original thread, Henrik.

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

Yeah, the choice of that happy smiley (in the other thread) seems a little strange. I can't say that I'm happy to exclude any critics' lists, but I will continue to keep to my rules.

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

whats the difference between genre specific, and country specific. I would think having a just british albums list would be excluding the same if not more albums then an Indie rock list.

Will you take out the country specif lists you already have in place?

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

Good! Any list that has Pavement as #1 should always be excluded. I have to vomit now.

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

Pavement is an amazing band. One of the best bands of 90's. If you truely believe that, then you as a fan of music, have fallen pretty low in my books.

Slanted and enchanted 10/10
Crooken Rain Crooked Rain 10/10
Wowzee Zowzee 8/10

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

whats the difference between genre specific, and country specific.

I can include country-specific lists because it's easy to "blank" all records from other countries for my calculations, just like all records before 2007 were blanked when I included the EOY 2007 lists. If there were no grey zones between genres, I guess I could have done the same with genre-specific lists.

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

List is still terrible. What a crap magazine.

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

Although I quite like the list, and do like Pavement (Don't worry, Tim, unlike other(s) I still hold you in high regard. Not that you were worried, though), I have to admit it is a gray area to say it's an indie rock list and include the likes of De La Soul and Brian Eno. Stick to your rules, Henrick.

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

I meant Henrik of course. Now we're even I guess. lol.

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

This coming from someone who has some grudge against a band who Pavement can't even hold a candle to, Vampire Weekend. Anyone who trashes a band so creative like Vampire Weekend for some band that only became popular cause we had no one else to turn to after Pixies broke up isn't even in my book period. The guy couldn't sing if his life depended on it. The whole noise band thing had been played to death by the time Pavement had come around but fortunatly for Pavement they came in just at the right time when everyone had been done already. No emotion, no heart, just recycled noise that we'd been listening to for years no only a half assed version of that. Sonic Youth could write better music if the entire band were in a coma. In fact Pavement sound like Sonic Youth in a coma. Vampire Weekend ROCKS!!!!! We all love them. They we're #3 overall and that one brilliant album of their is better than Pavement's entire pathetic catalog of crap.

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

Well I guess ten years from now we'll see who was remembered. pavement or Vampire weekend. Talent wise Pavement crushes them.

Vampire weekend are just gay, late-talking heads wannabies!. They have no backbone, and are mostly heard at preppy university costume parties. I picture Vampire weekend as a band that will one day be doing commercials for fish and chip franciases.

Did anyone see them on SNL? They were terrible, and the spoon up there ass look they're going for, did not go over well.

I do however believe they have talent. But they like alot of bands that have talent, need some direction. There self titled was unfocus, sloppy, and far to self indulgent. Like I said months ago. They need to sit down by a record player and have someone like Elvis Costello force feed them inspiration. THEN >>>MAYBE>>>> they might be decent.

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

I think Paul Simon would be a better influence to them than Elvis Costello.

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

Maybe...Point is, they need some to nurtured. Hell breast milk would bring these boys full swing!

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

Need to be*

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

Kevin, I don't want to be Mr. PC (not talking about the Coltrane song, either) here, but re: your comments about Vampire Weekend, it's kind of not cool to say that a band is "gay." With the possible exception of Antony and the Johnsons.

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

We already had this same exact conversation with the same exact participants early last year.

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

Here's the link: http://pub37.bravenet.com/forum/3172289350/show/824315

Go to March 20, lol

P.S. I think it's also OK to call Scissor Sisters gay.

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

OK OK....Im sorry once again. I'll call them fruity!

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

The thing that I really can't understand about this so-called debate is this: Pavement vs. Vampire Weekend? Really? Those are the terms of comparison? OK, then, how about this - who's better, Pavement or Aretha Franklin? Vampire Weekend or Benny Goodman? It's like asking whether Jerry Lee Lewis is better than the Adverts. It isn't apples and oranges, it's apples and mailboxes.

And, again, to follow up on that similar thread from last year: whether or not there's anything "gay" or "girly" or "fruity" about VW's sound (like just about everyone else except Kevin, I don't really hear it, myself), thinking that using those words passes for a serious musical discussion is really kind of ... well, I was going to say "douchey," but I don't want to insult feminine hygiene products...

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

I will say one thing, though: you know that Rufus Wainwright song-by-song replication of Judy Garland's JUDY AT CARNEGIE HALL that he performed a couple of years ago and released as a live album?

Man, that's gotta be the gayest record of all time...

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

Hey! I wasnt the one who compare them to Pavement. I simply said "They could benefit from listened to a band like Pavement" They could get some ideas and perhaps some inspiration from them. I also said they should listen to some Tom Waits. I never said anything about Comparisons. HE BRANG IT UP!

But as far as personal opinions go: YES I DO LIKE PAVEMENT MORE THE VAMPIRE WEEKEND.

All Vampire Weekend needs is a kick in the ass, some guts, some balls if you will; and they might be a decent band IN MY EYES.

Its not like I trashed them in my review. In my Newspaper article I gave them 1 and a half outa 5. It wasnt a ZERO!

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

Did you call them gay or fruity in the article? And where's the Web link to it so that we can all be enlightened? Every newspaper in the world has a Web site now.

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

I wasn't going to bring up Vampire Weekend at all. I like them but there was no point in arguing with some kid who kept ripping into them. I was detecting some rudeness in the group as well but I was going to let it go. It's when I was attacked personally that I brought up Vampire Weekend in comparison to Pavement. If you read AMG you'll see them compare VW to Pavement in the comparison section and I thought that was totally blasphemous. So I just brought up the fact that for someone who rips into VW everytime he sees them listed, to criticize me for not liking Pavement is ridiculous since Pavement were these halfassed Johnnycomelatelys who are one of the most undeserving bands to be listed as #1 on any list. Unless it's the list of most overrated college nerdbands of all time. But if you like them that's your choice. I just feel vocals are an important part in making good music for any genre. Which is why Tom Waits would be the last person I'd want influencing my music. If he wants to be like VWs personal Yoda he might as well be since Yoda is who he sounds like. Tom Waits sings the way that Amy Whinehouse looks.

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

OK...now you've entered personal territory. TOM WAITS! Don't go there pal. Tom waits is one of the most influencial, Greatest Song writers, Greatest singers this side of the fukin moon.

You can't compare VW to Tom waits, and thats not what I was doin. I said they should get some tips (LYRICALLY). To think they could be anywhere's close to as good as tom waits, is a joke in anyones eyes.

You need to be takin out behind a barn and shot.

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

"list of most overrated college nerdbands of all time"

TV on the radio
Animal Collective
Feist
Aric Monkeys
Cat Power
LCD soundsystem
Sufjan Stevens
Spoon
INterpol
Modest Mouse
The Strokes
elliot Smith
The shins
Wilco
MIA
The New Pornographers Yo La Tango
The Hold Steady
White Stripes
Arcade fire

All bands making music today that are on Blenders list, that VP could hold a candle to. Its not even up for discussion.

You can only be subjective about music to a point.
It feels like your comparing the spice girls to the Beatles.

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

You honestly think I was comparing Tom Waits to VW? I don't think so. I was comparing Tom Waits to Yoda or the Cookie Monster. C is for cookie that's good enough for me. I wouldn't dream of comparing Tom Waits to a gifted musician who can actually sing. I don't argue with children anyway so go back to listening to the Muppets on Radio Disney or as you like to call them Tom Waits or whatever. On second thought even Hilary Duff is to mature for someone like you.

Re: BLENDER Top 100 Indie Rock Albums

Enough of this.
