For those who want to know I picked Kid A, In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, Elliott Smith's Either/Or and Band of Horses' Everything All the Time. A couple that I needed to replace and a couple that I've meaning to pick up for years. I'm really excited to get them! Thanks Stefan!

Also, I'm glad to see Fleet Foxes trumped everything in the combined charts. That and The Week That Was were far ahead of the pack this year in my book.

Stefan, one minor correction: the Fucked Up album is actually titled THE CHEMISTRY OF COMMON LIFE.

Congratulations, John, and good LP choices! And I second your comments on Fleet Foxes (without any doubt my #1) and The Week That Was (haven't submitted my pazz&jop list yet, but in top 10 for sure).

Eh. I have Fleet Foxes in my top twenty. It has a lot of really nice melodies but I don't see how it stands out from the pack. Maybe it has something to do with my being more influenced by strong instrumentals, but Frightened Rabbit doesn't have them either and their album is way more catchy to me.

I'm surprised to see MGMT so high on Henrik's year end list. They strike me as one of those bands for depressed teenagers who want something other than mainstream but don't want to look very hard.

I think a lot of people don't get that Time To Pretend is making fun of the scene and see it as an anthem instead.

I just picked up Oracular Spectacular. I'm unimpressed. Time To Pretend is a good song, but by far the weakest critically acclaimed album of the year.

I'd just like to thank you for your work every month bringing us the best albums so far.

I disagree with you BillAdama. I think "Oracular spectacular" is one of the few album from 2008 that acctully gets the complete listen through every time i play it. This is the big problem i have with a few of the other albums with a lot of high list positions. "Dear science" is an album that i have given plenty of chances this year and there are good songs there. But every time i get two or three songs into it i become indifferent to the album and start to find it boring. It does not matter were on the album i start. The Hold steady, Sigur Ros and Hot chip all makes me feel the same. Most of these are bands from which i have previous albums and appriciates very much. For me MGMT is something new which i prefer to these other bands that just have not delivered albums this year matching there previous stuff. From them it has been more of the same, but with less quality.
I have one issue with the acclaim given to MGMT. Why this focus on "Time to pretend". The song does not get a podium possision from me on the album.
