Re: Pitchfork EOY lists 2008

According to NME

  • top 10 albums of Pitchfork gonna be

    1. Deerhunter – Microcastle / Weird Era Cont.
    2. TV On The Radio – Dear Science
    3. No Age - Nouns
    4. Hercules And Love Affair – Hercules And Love Affair
    5. Fleet Foxes – Fleet Foxes
    6. DJ Rupture - Uproot
    7. Fucked Up – The Chemistry Of Common Life
    8. Vampire Weekend – Vampire Weekend
    9. Cut Copy – In Ghost Colours
    10. Portishead – Third

I don't know is this the correct list (this list has been in the NME site almost a week).

    Re: Pitchfork EOY lists 2008

Glad to see Blind at the top, for sure one of the best track of the year (with Time Will). I find the rest of the album quite boring however, so I hope it won't be #1, not even on the top 10 (somewhere between 10 and 20 would be good for me).
And I hope they will help the Dodos go higher on the AM list !

    Re: Pitchfork EOY lists 2008

I'm guessing NME compiled that Pitchfork list based on Pitchfork's album ratings. Their final Top 10 list will probably look a lot different with some surprises thrown in.

    Re: Pitchfork EOY lists 2008

There aren't many mainstream hits very high on the Pitchfork list this year. Not surprising, it was a down year for pop and hip-hop.

    Re: Pitchfork EOY lists 2008

MGMT - Time To Pretend somehow made Pitchfork's best of 2007 and 2008 lists.

    Re: Pitchfork EOY lists 2008

    Re: Pitchfork EOY lists 2008

Wait, are you sure that wasn't the album? Pitchfork goes by when the single came out since they rank singles exclusively.

    Re: Pitchfork EOY lists 2008

Did you read the intro? This year they aren't rating just singles.

    Re: Pitchfork EOY lists 2008

    Oh, no I guess I didn't!

    Re: Pitchfork EOY lists 2008

I can fill the albums into Henrik's excel sheet.

    Re: Pitchfork EOY lists 2008

I was disappointed that they were one of the sites that gave a great review to The Week That Was and it didn't end up even in their honorable mentions.

    Re: Pitchfork EOY lists 2008

No surprises here. I guess I'm a little surprised they gave Erykah Badu her props since she's former mainstream. (But then again former and future mainstream bands are the best hipster ones. 'Oh, her new stuff is way better than her more known Baduizm!')

I agree with most of the inclusions, but there are a few exclusions I disagree with. (Drive By Truckers, Laura Marling, Spiritualized, etc)

    Re: Pitchfork EOY lists 2008

Baduizm was way better, hands down.

    Re: Pitchfork EOY lists 2008

Baduizm was way better, hands down.

eventually not sooo much down, Henrik... say .Stand, There's A Riot Goin' On, Fresh... considering perceptions, expansions, age, niche, hydrogen, flour worms, chasms.. I simply dun nukking no, I've just sensed some new rubber layers in between, like a nice yet unflinching drift away from Music Of My Mind to Innervisions..

a big welcome to the hipster card, btw..
