Which source do you trust the most?

Aside from Acclaimed Music, which source do you trust the most when it comes to music?

For me, I would put Rolling Stone magazine first (their 500 greatest albums/songs are pretty shot on), followed by the All Music Guide. I also visit Metacritic a lot, but their archives aren't very extensive.

Re: Which source do you trust the most?

Friends above anyone else because I know their tastes. Rate Your Music is good too.

Re: Which source do you trust the most?

AM is my one and only source. in my opinion it's far more accurate than metacritic or allmusic. the only reason for me to use any other website is for things that AM doesn't do. things like allmusic's track pick.

after AM, though i rarely use it, would have to be pitchfork.

Re: Which source do you trust the most?

All Music Guide is a great resource. So much info.

Re: Which source do you trust the most?

I don't necessarily trust Pitchfork but I do use it to see what's out there and I guess I do make a point to listen to their recommended music.

Re: Which source do you trust the most?

Allmusic is great for information (not as good for ratings), AM is great for recommendations, metacritic is great for immediate reviews (although I trust EOY lists more than reviews, which is why AM even wins in that respect).

Overall, AM is by far the music site I look to the most. Henrik deserves awards.

Re: Which source do you trust the most?

Scaruffi's site has actually been my main resource for experimental music though. He's spot on with my tastes.

Re: Which source do you trust the most?

I agree with Sean Pak concerning All Music Guide (lots of infos) and AM (critics' recommendations; no, still not a music bible, Henrik).

Metacritic I sometimes peek for interesting new unknown releases which are rated 80+ and read the more or less useful reviews there.

Compared to All Music Guide, I like Rate Your Music more for being more complete on releases and release dates. And it's nice to maintain and rate your own music collection, make all kinds of lists and peek at other members' (including so called friends) recommendations.

Re: Which source do you trust the most?

I don't trust "professional" rock critics (all the sites mentioned on metacritic), I just read some of their reviews by they don't influence me on music I purchase.
99% of them don't even give a f***k about the kind of music I like (pop/powerpop).
I'm more interested by music fans opinions, so sites like RYM or last.fm are the best.
I've discovered more awesome music on last.fm and RYM during these last two years than with magazines (on paper or on website) during the 30 first years of my life.

Re: Which source do you trust the most?

There's really no individual source I trust. Rolling Stone loves rap and hates new music that isn't rap or Weezer, Pitchfork has it's obvious biases, allmusic has ten thousand different writers and the particular tastes of the person who writes the review is a crapshoot.

I'd say my most trusted source is the friend I referenced in another thread. After that, maybe Pazznjop, though it also has it's biases. Popmatters maybe.
