Like I said in the artists thread, I can't think of another highly acclaimed band where for the most part most of their catalog is ignored. So, what are your favorite songs that aren't on those albums?
1. Lucifer Sam- Piper at the Gates of Dawn
2. Fearless- Meddle
3. Matilda Mother- Piper at the Gates of Dawn
4. Flaming- Piper at the Gates of Dawn
5. A Pillow of Winds- Meddle
6. Wots Uh the Deal- Obscured By Clouds
7. If- Atom Heart Mother
8. Green is the Color- More
9. Bike- Piper at the Gates of Dawn
10. Echoes- Meddle
All of "Wish You Were Here." Seriously, that album is brilliant (their best in my opinion). Their style just works so well in that album and the emotions are genuinely heartfelt.
They've been my favourite band since about 1972.
My top ten doesn't include any Wall or DSOTM songs anyway.
1. A Saucerful Of Secrets (from "Ummagumma")
2. Atom Heart Mother
3. Careful With That Axe, Eugene (from "Ummagumma")
4. Fingal's Cave
5. Fat Old Sun
6. Grantchester Meadows
7. Shine On You Crazy Diamond
8. The Embryo
9. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun
10. Wish You Were Here
Even making this a top twenty would only include two songs from those albums - I much prefer the earlier Floyd. My full list has 80 songs, but I won't bore you all with it.
ok, i've fixed it so far, it's eventually
the whole A Saucerful Of Secrets album, See Emily Play, Interstellar Overdrive and Astronomy Domine
plus (minus, actually) the bubbling omissions:
b-sided Careful With That Axe, Eugene; The Sysyphus Suite on Ummagumma; It Would Be So Nice; Comfortably Numb (yeah. I know)... well, that's it anyway. post'69 PF is way too big for me.
1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond, pt 1-7 from the Best Of
2. Wish You Were Here
3. Some catchy tune from the early Syd period
4. Some animal song
5. Maybe "Echoes"
Sorry for only five. Enjoy "Wish You Were Here"!
All of Wish You Were Here,Learning To Fly(I guess I'm the only one who loves that song),See Emily Play,Echoes
This topic should be called Top 10 Pink Floyd Songs Not On DSOTM or WYWH - Wish You Were Here is a tour de force.
the whole of wish you were here is amazing. anthony said in another thread that the comfortably numb solo is the best advertisement for the fender stratocaster. to me, the best advertisement for the strat is that 4 note riff that appears a few minutes into shine on you crazy diamond. that guitar sounds unbelievable. to get that sound, not only would i buy a strat, but i would buy the amp, and every effects processor he uses between them. anyway, that guitar sound contributes to an amazing song, which contributes to an amazing album. so i'm going to have to go with penguin and midaso and put "all of 'wish you were here'" as my favorite pink floyd tracks that aren't on dsotm or the wall.
"post'69 PF is way too big for me"
I agree Jade. To me, the Strat kind of ruined Pink Floyd. Although, I don't mind Comfortably Numb either.
1. Wish You Were Here
2. See Emily Play
3. Learning to Fly
5. Pigs on the Wing
6. San Tropez
7. Pigs (Three Different Ones)
8. Not Now John
9. Shine On You Crazy Diamond
10. Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk
My favourite Pink Floyd record is "More".
I really don't understand why people don't like it.
Have you heard “Summer ‘68” from “Atom Heart Mother”? An excellent Rick Wright composition with some sunshine-pop flavour.
By the way, “Atom Heart Mother” is a strange album, with 3 great songs sandwiched between 2 crashing bores (like Morrissey would say).
And another favourite of mine is “Chapter 24” from the first album.
i think dark side and the wall are definitely their two best albums. never got into that goofy acid-gobbler, though i guess he wrote some good songs, and his bio is the stuff of rock legends...
in no order
1. Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun
2. Astronomy Domine
3. Lucifer Sam
4. Careful with that Axe, Eugene
5. Funky Dung
6. A Pillow of Winds
8. Wish You Were Here
9. Shine On You Crazy Diamond
