top songs of 2008

what songs do you think will make the Top Songs Of 2008 list, so far?

Re: top songs of 2008

Coldplay - "Viva la Vida" and "Violet Hill"

As much as I don't like it, Lil Wayne's "Lollipop"

And I know that M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes" fared quite well on the 2007 list, but it could pull a "Rehab" and gain a few more end-of-year lists now that it's a hit single.

Portishead will probably have a song as well, perhaps "The Rip" or "Machine Gun"?

And as annoying as it gets after hearing it too much, Madonna & Justin's "4 Minutes" could easily make the top songs of 2008.

Re: top songs of 2008

"T.I. - Whatever You Like" should be ranked high up there and I must say, deservingly so.

Re: top songs of 2008

I expect Duffy's "Mercy" to be a big player.

Re: top songs of 2008

Possible common acclaim:

Fleet Foxes - Blue Ridge Mountain
Portishead - The Rip
T.I. - Whatever You Like

And personal favourites:

Crystal Antlers - Vexation
Deerhunter - Operation

Guilty Pleasure:

Gabriella Cilmi - Sweet About Me

Re: top songs of 2008

I can imagine Estelle's American Boy w/ Kanye making the list

Re: top songs of 2008

I don't get why Lil' Wayne's Mr. Carter wasn't the big single on that album. I don't like Lil' Wayne all that much but that song is awesome.

Do top singles lists usually include singles that came out in the year even though they were on albums the year before? I think they do...

Kanye West- Homecoming and Flashing Lights
Goldfrapp- A E
Madonna- 4 Minutes
Sam Sparro- Black and Gold
Fleet Foxes- White Winter Hymnal
Ladytron- Ghosts (Hopefully, it's my favorite single of the year)
Fat chance even though I love it- Britney Spears- Radar

Re: top songs of 2008

Heard that Estelle song on the radio tonight, first "Top 40" tune I've liked in a LOOOOONG spell.

Re: top songs of 2008

Viva la Vida will probably score very high. A Millie, too, maybe... I personnally think the song of the year so far is Water Curses by Animal Collective. It is so original, yet accessible and sounds like nothing I have heard. :)

Re: top songs of 2008

Finally heard the new Nick Cave...like it a bunch.

I would imagine a song or two from that, most likely "We Call Upon the Author" or "More News from Nowhere", will be on year end lists.

Re: top songs of 2008

I can agree with Kevin on Gobbledigook, totally a stand-out cut.

Singles...

from an album released the year prior eventually get placed in that year's list- Henrik made that alteration a couple years or so ago.
