Come one, come all to the results of the massively succesesful AM Artists Poll! It is my pleasure and privilege to guide you through the twists and turns of this fascinating list! I've gone through each list and checked it twice, so if there's a mistake, I'm either (a) an idiot, or (b) twice an idiot! In total, 35 lists were received, and 1035 artists were deemed worthy of a vote. As usual, I will begin by presenting the Bubbling Under List. And away we go!

I plan on fleshing this out a bit so that it can be used as a resource for those unfamiliar with the artists to dig a little deeper if they want. I will include the following information for each of the enshrined 100:
AM Rank: The artist ranking according to our beloved website. This will probably be the best comparison to determine how an artist's reputation here varies from that of the critical consensus.
Survivor Rank: An artist's placement in Schleuse's survivor game, if applicable. It will be interesting to compare the results of this poll with Survivor, because both this poll and Survivor use different metrics to rank artists- while Survivor values consistency and breadth of acceptance, this poll rewards the unabashed love that we have for artists in a different format.
Polls Rank: An application of Henrik's master formula to rank the artists based on their album and song placements in the polls run earlier this year.
Total Points: As obvious as it sounds!
Ballots: Both the number of ballots and the individual votes will be listed.
Quotable: A few people submitted quotes for the artists they selected, and they will be posted here where relevant!
Albums in the Top 1000 Poll: For those that would like to explore an artist, these albums may be the best place to start, as the overlap of voters suggests that those who are responsible for an artist's placing in the top 100 value these works.
Songs in the Top 1000 Poll: The same concept, but for the songs.
Path to the Top 100: A sort of glimpse of the results in motion. Each artist took a unique path to eventual beatification in the coveted Top 100. You can see how the artists' ranks varied as the list grew.
I hope that you all will enjoy the process as much as I will! It is indeed a wonderful pleasure to be trusted with the compilation and presentation of our master list, and I hope to do it proud!

Lonesome Panda: Sound of Silver is one of my favourite albums ever, and the more I listen to the older songs, the more I love them, with the expection of 3 or 4 which still bore me ! Anyway, before them, when you loved both electro and rock, you only had the Chemical Brothers or Daft Punk to conciliate your taste. Then Murphy arrived, produced The Rapture to give some clues and created LCD Soundsystem to give the true answers... a whole scene then followed, thanks to this genius ! Favourite album: Sound of Silver, Favourite Song: All My Friends
Moonbeam: Of the artists in my top 30, this is the biggest surprise. Who would have expected a 30 year old to burst onto the scene brimming with such a wide scope of ideas? The debut album was a nice tease, but Sound of Silver proved that James Murphy is equally capable of poignant artistic expression as he is of crafting unrelentingly badass jams.

There are two artists outside of the AM top 100 that are in the top 20!

John: So much talent in one group. Unfortunately, 99 percent of the time ego gets in the way. But they were the best and managed to put the ego aside for a bunch of killer albums.
I love it too, quite impressive !
Already 2 artists which have reached the top 100 thanks to the last list !
And concerning the 2 artists which were in the top 20 without being in the acclaimed top 100, I'm quite sure one of them is my number one, since I have been among the first persons to send a list.
Funny... the graph for Pearl Jam is a pretty accurate representation of their career. Initial success and acclaim with Ten and Vs. Vitalogy is a bit weaker, but still damn good. Yield and Binaural are the low points, and their most recent album (self-titled, 2006)is a return to form (and acclaim).
Rush, The New Pornographers, Meat Loaf, The Hold Steady, Weezer, Mercury Rev, The National, and The Stone Roses were all on my list. Probably some others too, but I can't even remember which ones I had in...
And this is done really well. I can see a lot of time was put into it; it'll be hard to top.
Man, that sucks that The Monkees didn't crack the top 100. Even if they were a TV band, they are my favorite singles band after the Beatles and a couple of their albums are excellent.
Well John, if I remember older polls, I guess you talk about my number 1, which I guess is quite high on your list too !
Just a few more votes for him and we can expect him on the top 60 I guess.
Oh, I think you're talking about Elliott Smith. No, I kind of expected him to be top 100. I wouldn't doubt if he cracks the top 30.
I'm talking about Matthew Sweet. I can't believe he wouldn't make the top 500 since most of us are around the age to appreciate him and like that style of music. I'd be really pleased/shocked if he got into the top 100. I can't remember where I put him on my list.
Elliott Smith has to be in the Top 100, I'm sure of that. The artist I'm thinking about is the Smashing Pumpkins. I know that they probably aren't as well liked here as in some other places (they remain a sentimental favorite to me), but I'd be shocked if they were out of the Top 500 or in the Top 100 (Even if they rank 103 on AM). So either way, surprised.
Pity I couldn't make a list up - was just a little too busy in the last couple of weeks. Will enjoy seeing it unfold though - hope The Smiths and New Order do well...

Slush: It's one album and the songs from that album that propells Television all the way up to #18
Moonbeam: Mythical and brilliant, Television worked equally well as a pioneering new wave/post punk gem in the late 70s as a reference point for The Strokes to rescue rock and roll over 20 years later from the doldrums of Matchbox 20 and Third Eye Blind.
I'm glad the Stooges and Television made it in. Funhouse and Marquee Moon are absolute classics. I know I moved them both down because nothing either of those bands did compared to those albums, but at the same time, I was hoping those albums would keep them in the top 100. Their spots are about right, not among the greats but in the mix to show they made a big mark on what rock and roll is today. The landscape would sure be a lot different if it weren't for Marquee Moon and Funhouse.

Moonbeam: One of the main critiques of Kraftwerk seems to be that their supposed influence dwarfs the actual quality of the music. However, the tenderness of “Computer Love”, the funk workout of “Pocket Calculator”, the shimmer beauty of “Neon Lights”, the acute pop sensibilities of “The Model” and the paranoid claustrophobia of “Metropolis” seem as vital to me now as ever.
I did not expect the Cocteau Twins that high !
I knew that Love and the Zombie had many aficionados on the forum but it is much more a surprise for Liz Fraser & co. I will give them a try.
I like how we're getting sneak peaks into the next update. Sound of Silver @ 91 must mean they took over the top spot for 07 unless Arcarde Fire and Radiohead scored in the 80s.
I'll post my personal 100 on the original "send them in"
thread...since I missed the cutoff and I'd at least like to get them out there.
My ranking method was to list every song I love by them that I could name off the top of my head then go back and subjectively break the ties. I think it was pretty representative of my favorites in the end.
Odd thought: I didn't see Neutral Milk Hotel in the Top 500. I'm thinking that they're well-liked here (I'm pretty sure someone else has "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea" as their favorite album). I didn't (and still don't) think that they're in the Top 100, but seeing both Love and The Zombies has given me hope. It'd be a huge disappointment if they weren't in the Top 500 at all though...

Mitchell Sterling: There's increasing a school of thought that becomes harder to argue with the correct answer to the great Britpop debate of Oasis or Blur is C) Pulp. As Oasis continue to embarrass themselves and Blur and Pulp remain in hiatus for now half a decade their three mid 90's records are increasing revered as a high water mark for British indie in the last generation. "Common People" on it's own is rightly acclaimed as one of the songs of the decade. For me, Pulp have always been that band that spoke for the outsider in us all and to spend so long on the sidelines only to be spectacularly cast into the mainstream and most importantly make a classic record at the peak of it, not just on the way up is an almost unparalleled achievement in recent popular music. On the way back down they were no less impressive, from the troubled soul of This Is Hardcore and the Scott Walkerisms of We Love Life.

Slush: Making my #1 song of all time has to count for something. There is just pure exhuberence and joy within New Order's music that I find myself listening to it more and more each day.
Moonbeam: The suicide of Ian Curtis would have made many bands just call it a day. However, the remnants of Joy Division proved that they had much more to offer, and their transition from the JD-aftermath into post-punk behemoths and later to electronic dance legends illustrates the great scope of talent within the band. Rarely has music sounded so joyous, and few artists are able to give me such chills with a simple piano line or bass hook.

Paul's Boutique is as important in rap history as any Public Enemy album, Ill Communication is as far as I know the first album to brass (monkey) so many different musical genres and Hello Nasty brings that idea of diversity to its summit (yeah... That's right! Album and song positions are for our polls that we ran in January and February, since it seemed more natural to include them, as they came from the result of a similar poll!
Probably no hip-hop artists on the top 75 (well, I have not seen Run DMC so far but it would surprise me to see them higher than Public Enemy). That's quite sad to see Eminem, Beastie Boys, Public Enemy and especially De La Soul that low.

Quotable:
Moonbeam: The fashion now seems to be to despise The Doors for their bombastic and pompous performances, but I can’t help but love the jazz overtones of Manzarek coupled with the acute pop sensibilities of Jim Morrison. Yes, their catalog was filled with bloated epics, but there’s nothing quite like the bluesy riffs of “L.A. Woman” to capture the essence of a sweltering August day, as their penchant for fun, raucous, sexual tension gets my blood boiling. I think I need to change my panties- good Lawd!
