Brace yourself because this past cut we eliminated not one, but two albums, Beatles For Sale and Yellow Submarine. Yellow Submarine looked like it was holding on nicely after finding new life but that patch just wouldn't hold! With All You Need Is Love gone too, Piggies is the only remaining song from what I'll call the Beatles Oceanic 8.
Eliminated:
15: Eight Days a Week
13: Hey Bulldog
13: It’s All Too Much
12: Julia
11: All You Need is Love
Close: For No One, I Want You (She's So Heavy, Good Day Sunshine, I'm Looking Through You, Think for Yourself, Mother Nature's Son, Piggies, Two Of Us, She Came In Through The Bathroom Window

Don't Let Me Down
5: I Am the Walrus
5: Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!
4: Twist and Shout
4: Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
3: I'm So Tired
3: Sexy Sadie
2: Oh! Darling
2: Savoy Truffle
1: Piggies
1: She Came in Through the Bathroom Window (kinda weird voting for this since it's part of a medley)
Does anybody know why Anthony isn't participating anymore?
I have to say I really liked the results this week. They might not have been the next ones on my list but I don't feel bad about any of them not making it farther.
5: She Loves You
5: Savoy Truffle
4: Got To Get You Into My Life
4: Twist and Shout
3: Back in the USSR
3: I Saw Her Standing There
2: If I Needed Someone
2: Carry That Weight
1: With A Little Help From My Friends- Like I said last time, it's hard to find faults with the rest of the songs but Joe Cocker kind of ruined this song for me.
1: Taxman
Sad to see Eight Days a Week go, but finally my least favorite Beatles' relevant song (i.e., excluding shit like A Taste of Honey) has been sent away from the island!
Something interesting we can realize now. We've frequently heard people saying that the White Album would have been something of unimaginable greatness if it had been released as a simple 14-track disc. And, so, I've always wondered which would be the selected tracks if this was the real situation. Well, now we've reached the point where there are exactly 14 white tracks in the game.
So it seems that, for the AM-Beatlemaniacs, the best possible version of "The Beatles" would be something like this (I've reordered the tracks in order to retain the fluency and cohesion of a real album):
1) Back in the USSR
2) Dear Prudence
3) Piggies
4) I'm So Tired
5) Cry Baby Cry
6) Sexy Sadie
7)While My Guitar Gently Weeps
8) Mother Nature's Son
9) Helter Skelter
10) Martha My Dear
11) Happiness Is a Warm Gun
12) I Will
13) Savoy Truffle
14) Blackbird
Proud to see my fab's favorite song making it!
Just kinda lost interest, John.
5.- Martha My Dear
5.- Two Of Us
4.- She Came In Through The Bathroom Window
4.- Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
3.- With A Little Help From My Friends
3.- Oh! Darling
2.- You Won't See Me
2. Think For Yourself
1. Hello Goodbye
1.- Piggies
Those two departing Yellow Submarine songs are among my favourites, it's good to see they both stuck around for an extra few weeks and rightfully made the top 100.
5: Lady Madonna
5: Dear Prudence
4: Martha My Dear
4: Lovely Rita
3: Day Tripper
3: She Loves You
2: Two Of Us
2: For No One
1: All My Loving
1: I'm Only Sleeping
5: The Fool on the Hill
5: Piggies
4: Think for Yourself
4: Fixing a Hole
3: Can't Buy Me Love
3: Sexy Sadie
2: Lovely Rita
2: Mother Nature's Son
1: Carry That Weight
1: Hello Goodbye
5: Piggies
5: Good Day Sunshine
4: Back In The U.S.S.R.
4: Come Together
3: Fool On The Hill, The
3: Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite!
2: Think For Yourself
2: Fixing A Hole
1: Get Back
1: Don't Let Me Down
If Piggies or Good Day Sunshine last longer than For No One....
The only complaint I have about For No One is that it's short and ends abruptly. I kind of wish they would have thrown an extra verse on, maybe even an orchestration in the middle. I'm not close to voting it off but it feels incomplete.
That's a good White Album but I think Savoy Truffle wouldn't fit anymore. If that were the 14 I'd replace Savoy Truffle with Julia or Rocky Raccoon to maintain the overall feel of the album. Savoy Truffle on that version would be like if Beck threw in E-Pro on Sea Changes.
Still looks like a pretty patchy album...
5: For No One
5: Got to Get You Into My Life
4: With a Little Help from My Friends
4: Mother Nature's Son
3: I'm Looking Through You
3: Martha My Dear
2: Come Together
2: Cry Baby Cry
1: Get Back
New vote:
1: All My Loving: I like this song not because I feel good when listening to it, but cause I have kind of a sympathy for its spirit, the sentiment shown within its melody and lyrics. This means that, when I listen to it, I generally feel almost nothing, but even though I have postponed the most I could my voting against it. Hey, never would think this song could get so far! And I Love Her and If I Fell have already gone and this one's still with us, strange thing...
5: Hello Goodbye
5: Ticket to Ride
4: Good Day Sunshine
4: Savoy Truffle
3: I'm Looking Through You
3: I'm so Tired
2: Twist and Shout
2: Carry That Weight
New votes:
1: Two of Us: during the last (and difficult) days of The Beatles Paul and Linda used to drive a lot going nowhere, running away from the continuous discussions. That feeling of freedom inspired many songs, “Two of Us” (“getting nowhere / on our way back home”), “You Never Give Me Your Money” (“Oh that magic feeling / nowhere to go”) and “The Back Seat of My Car” (“We was only hiding / sittin’ in the back seat of my car”). The three songs were outstanding but the first one was maybe too mellow.
1: Lovely Rita: a lovely Macca song perfectly built, acting picky I would say that I find here more craft tan real inspiration.
5: Piggies
5: Two Of Us
4: I Want You(She's So Heavy)
4: Lady Madonna
3: You Won't See Me
3: I'm Looking Through You
2: Good Day Sunshine
2: Lovely Rita
1: Fool On The Hill
1: I Will
5: Oh! Darling
5: You've Got to Hide Your Love Away
4: For No One
4: Mother Nature's Son
3: Hello Goodbye
3: You Won't See Me
2: She Came in Through the Bathroom Window
2: Two of Us
1: Penny Lane - has never been my favourite, to repetitive for me
1: Lady Madonna - great energy/rhythm, but it's definitely not one of their best songs
5 - Being for the benefit of Mr.Kite!
5 - Think for yourself
4 - I'm looking through you
4 - She came in through the bathroom window
3 - Two of us
3 - Get back
2 - Cry baby cry
2 - Good day sunshine
1 - I'm so tired
1 - Savoy truffle
Just a question :
Does anyone here have made one day a personal compilation of favourite Beatles songs on a CD-R of 80 minutes ?
I would like to do this but the choice of the songs is too hard for me.
If someone ever did this, I'd be curious to know your personal compilation.
No, I haven't done that. But, if I made one and told you I'd be giving away my top 25! I don't think I've made a mix-cd since freshman year of college (1999). I was kind of an early adopter to MP3 players, I had a 512 MB Rio in 2000! You read right, 512 MB. Actually it might have been 256, it could store 100 or so low quality WMA's.
5: Back In The U.S.S.R.
5: I Want You (She's So Heavy)
4: I Saw Her Standing There
4: I'm So Tired
3: Can't Buy Me Love
3: Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite!
2: Taxman
2: She Loves You
1: Oh! Darling
1: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Yeah of course. I made mix cds of their stuff years ago - that's how I got into it. It's not that hard for me to do but of course,I'm probably not so much a fan of their stuff beyond top 30,top 40 as most others here...
