hope not, like the other lists it's just a big advert for Warner Bros.

Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 100 Albums of the Past 25 Years

Is that Bachelor No. 2 cd any good? It only ranked as high as #25 which isn't that high compared to other females from that year or the year before like Beth Orton or Goldfrapp.

Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 100 Albums of the Past 25 Years

how the hell is Jagged Little Pill so far ahead of exile in guyville? That record(Exile)is the bible of all " angry woman" cds. If anything, Alanis owes a great debt to Phair. And beyonce and illmatic are also ahead of that great record? What kind of a list is this? It is widely known--and I mean widely--that Phair's record was ,and still is, the most acclaimed record by a woman since, I don't know, Blue by Joni Mitchell.

This is a predictably ridiculous list from EW, with a bunch of surprises, but none of them good. There are so many cds on here not even great--madonna's debut, american idiot, Rock Steady--that make you wonder who the hell made this list in the first place.

Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 100 Albums of the Past 25 Years

Has this list been added in the update? I dont like it, but it would give in rainbows a boost

Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 100 Albums of the Past 25 Years

I also love to see Ga Ga Ga Ga get a good spot... I don't even know if I would agree with it but I do love that album...

Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 100 Albums of the Past 25 Years

I don't think it's been added. Didn't Henrik say he mainly just added 2007 year-end stuff?

Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 100 Albums of the Past 25 Years

Is that supposed to be Vs. or Ten at #78 for Pearl Jam? If it is indeed Vs., then the year is wrong, but it seems like this list would more likely include Ten.

Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 100 Albums of the Past 25 Years

"It is widely known--and I mean widely--that Phair's record was ,and still is, the most acclaimed record by a woman since, I don't know, Blue by Joni Mitchell."

AM ranking of solo albums by females since 1971 (the year Blue came out, so I'm not including Tapestry or Janis Joplin's Pearl):

Patti Smith - Horses (1975) -- #22 on AM (ranked higher than Blue)
Joni Mitchell - Court and Spark (1974) -- #132 on AM
PJ Harvey - To Bring You My Love (1995) -- #140 on AM
Bjork - Debut (1993) -- #142 on AM
Lauryn Hill -- The Miseducation of... (1998) -- #143 on AM
Kate Bush - Hounds of Love (1985) -- #224 on AM
Joanna Newsome -- Ys (2006) -- #240 on AM
M.I.A. -- Arular (2005) -- #241 on AM
Liz Phair -- Exile on Guyville -- #254 on AM

I take a back seat to no one in my love and admiration for Exile on Guyville. It's my favorite album on that list above. According to the numbers, though, there are a number of albums more acclaimed, with Horses leading the way.

(BTW, this exercise made me really sad about the dominance of male artists on the critics' lists. In terms of female dominated bands, the only other albums that were in the top-250 were The Pretenders debut and, arguably, Parallel Lines by Blondie.)

This Definitely Has...

a few more mainstream inclusions, albums you won't see on any other list, really (Britney Spears? And for that album?)

Madonna's debut is pretty well-regarded- a template for dance-pop to come after and such. And there's no denying "Holiday, ""Borderline" and "Lucky Star."
