Where is "Willie the pimp" by Frank Zappa ?

Re: Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time another new list

Can someone tell me where guitar virtuosity went? As far as I can tell, the only ones carrying the torch are Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead and Jack White.

Re: Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time another new list

willie the pimp is #75

i like seeing chuck berry and hendrix on top, but crossroads at #3 is ridiculous

nels cline's solo on "impossible germany" is possibly my favorite of the decade

Re: Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time another new list

and Eruption gets its usual CGI affirmative action gloss ... poor little Crispin Glover..

Re: Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time another new list

I am baffled by this list take "Brown Sugar" out and add "I Can't No Satisfaction". Take "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" out and add "And Your Bird Can Sing" and take out "I Saw Here Standing There" great song and add "I Feel Fine". I don't understand why "Brown Sugar" is on this list it's basic Chuck Berry there is nothing new about it. There are plenty of Beatles songs that I would put ahead of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" even if Clapton is on guitar. "Taxman" already has the distorted funky Hendrix chord that "Purple Haze" uses greatly. For once I am happy someone gave Chuck Berry some respect.

Now if only that kid can turn that shit into music.

Re: Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time another new list

this list really annoys me.
first of all i can't believe all the acclaim rolling stone is giving to such mediocre bands like aerosmith, dire straits, steely dan, etc.
you really got me is NOT a "guitar song".
dig me out. i mean really? #44? rolling stone rarely gave sleater-kinney any credibility until they broke up and said they were the best punk band of all time. better than the ramones.
my iron lung over creep just doesnt make sense.
only shallow should be much higher.
holidays in the sun is NOT guitar song because the sex pistols are not "musicians".
how soon is now should be higher because of what marr inspired in guitarists of the next decade.
while my guitar gently weeps is WAY too high.
last nite should have been on the list not take it or leave it.
this magazine has become a joke...

Re: Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time another new list

oh, and...
t. rex, bowie, the velvet underground should have at least made the list. just a thought-

Everyone loves lists. Just take a new look here. Comments updated every day with new love.

Re: Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time another new list

Holidays in the Sun makes me want to learn guitar every time I hear it. so yeah, despite its flaws, I think it is a pretty good guitar song!

I dont think thats a particularly bad list to be honest, though the metal bands are as predictable as ever. Couldnt they put different song, like Megadeths "Holy Wars" or Panteras "Cemetery Gates" in, just for a change? its not like they're unheard of! every time Rolling Stone/Q do a list, count the number of metal bands, and I'll give you one wildcard outside this order (ie if there's 3 metal bands, it'll be GnR, Sabbath and one other)

Guns N Roses
Black Sabbath
AC/DC
Metallica
Ozzy
Van Halen

then its probably either Rage Against The Machine, Judas Priest or Slayer

Re: Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time another new list

Steely Dan, a shit band?? :)

I miss Django Reinhardt - Limehouse Blues!
