I cannot belive Drive My Car got voted off so soon. The entire genre of power pop owes its existence to songs like Drive My Car and Day Tripper - those songs are like blue prints to the last 40 years of quality pop rock.

John, "I Need You" is -still- listed as eligible under HELP! ...

The American version of RUBBER SOUL was marred not only by the omission of four of the U.K. tracks but by the tacking on of two HELP! cuts which, while certainly not terrible, just don't measure up. "It's Only Love" earns a place on my list here ahead of "I've Just Seen a Face" for being unnaturally singsongy for a Lennon song and for being the only track left in the competition featuring that goofy guitar-delay thingamawhoozit that George seemed to be entranced by for about five minutes in '65.

No new votes for me too. And, echoing two previous comments (John’s and Neil’s), one of my Beatles Top 10 songs is already gone. I think that “Drive My Car” is a great song, one of the best rockers from Paul McCartney & The Beatles, with a fresh cowbell-based beat, a propulsive bass and guitar riff (one of the few cases that Macca approved a Harrison idea for an arrangement), a fine keyboard part, a tight Lennon-McCartney harmony, an inspired blues-based melody and a quite funny lyrics (maybe most of you have penalized it for the lyrics). Too many flavours in my opinion for being punished like that. I don’t care if it really deserves the Top 10, but for sure it’s Top 100 (in my humble opinion, of course).

I never voted for Drive My Car but I didn't have it in my top 100 either and the same goes for Day Tripper. They might have developed the power pop genre, but I don't think they were ever all that good it. Power pop might owe a lot to the Beatles but The Beatles aren't the band that should be credited for perfecting the genre. These two songs seem more like relics unlike most of the remaining songs which still sound fresh today.

New for me this week are "Can't Buy Me Love" and "Back in the USSR", two Beatles songs that I was never a big fan of, and never understood why they were so popular.
