Re: New game: a yearly chart on a daily basis

I would have chosen Diddley's thang, but after all: who cares anyway?! Dictator Jockey presents the hottest of the freshest of the day and I'm cheeringly swallowing it

Re: New game: a yearly chart on a daily basis

You've all been excellent, if somewhat silent, listeners. All that remains is for me to announce today's best song, and one of the best of the whole 1950s. I'm gonna have to disappoint you Rune, neither of your two favorites made the list, although "I've Got A Woman" came very close. No, the definite winner of today is Chuck Berry. It's his first single, and his second best, and it has stood the test of time perfectly. Whoever said pre-1965 music sucked must not have heard this. To quote myself in the first week of bracketology: "There's school, there's women and there's cars; [this is] thé rock & roll song". And to quote Rolling Stone magazine: "Rock and roll guitar starts here".

Chuck Berry performed this song live in a French show in 1965, and the presenter literally runs off. And he should, because Chuck Berry was coming. Go Chuck Berry, go!

Re: New game: a yearly chart on a daily basis

though Sixteen Tons would have been trotzdemely an essential choice that got shamefully neglected,,. I'm eager to watch the nearest (and hopefully bright as usual) future in here..

Re: New game: a yearly chart on a daily basis

Would anybody mind if I do 56 tonight? I didn't realize 56 would be on a Saturday: A Saturday where I'm going to be gone most of the day. I can do it later to let everybody appreciate 55.

Re: New game: a yearly chart on a daily basis

somehow it seems that I still might speak on the behalf of those who captured the voices of nicolas, henrik, stephan, rune or stammer... so do your thing, john. there's at least one person still alive who's scheduling tremors like these. aka/the fascination, 2.8.

Re: New game: a yearly chart on a daily basis

I missed the show today, but I'm glad to see one of the songs I was rooting, "The Great Pretender," fare so well. The other was "Let's Get Lost" by Chet Baker, but there's no good video of that one anyway.

Re: New game: a yearly chart on a daily basis

Alright Netjade. Sorry everyone, I really don't think I'm going to have time to write this up tomorrow. Hopefully, you're all ok with this..

GO CHECK OUT STEPHAN'S 1955 BEFORE LOOKING AT THE NEXT POSTS!

Re: New game: a yearly chart on a daily basis

Thank you folks !

Oh these times were great !
You both picked excellent stuff !

Re: New game: a yearly chart on a daily basis

Great list John. Just woke up an hour or two ago and I can now listen to some great classics again. I really like this game.

Re: New game: a yearly chart on a daily basis

Has anybody signed up for '57?

Re: New game: a yearly chart on a daily basis

Whoever takes it should do a part 2 thread.

Re: New game: a yearly chart on a daily basis

So sorry but I got a very busy week (and weekend too, including yesterday and today), only got enough free time on afternoon and evening on Thursday. Can I book 1961 for Thursday?

Re: New game: a yearly chart on a daily basis

Are we still looking for a 1957 volunteer?

I'll do it if you need someone.

Re: New game: a yearly chart on a daily basis

We are, so feel free. I was gonna offer to do it if nobody wanted to after today but I think it's more fun if as many different people participate as possible.

Re: New game: a yearly chart on a daily basis

I was away the last few days so just getting caught up. Great shows everybody and glad to see you giving the "man in black" his just dues, John. I'm sure that's great with everybody Paul and then I'll have 1958 covered.

Re: New game: a yearly chart on a daily basis

OK. I'll start a new thread.

Re: New game: a yearly chart on a daily basis

I like this game. Although I would vote for keeping the rules exactly the way they are. I you allow re-entries then it just turns into that persons top ten. This is a good idea!
