Re: Acclaimed Music: The best 50 years (part 5)

Oops, some corrections:

#7 is 1969, but album ranking is 7th and song ranking is 10th.

#6 is 1991, but album ranking is 6th and song ranking is 9th.

A typical example of copy, paste and forgot to modify.

So, Midaso, you were right, 1965 is the best song year.

Holding both numbers 1 and 2 in the AM song 3000 and 4 other strong songs in the top 100, it might not have been a very big surprise, but still, it's not '66 or '67.

These 2 years, together with 1968, are battling for the top 3 positions. Will wait with posting those later today, North America needs to wake up first ...

Re: Acclaimed Music: The best 50 years (part 5)

8 of the years between 1965 and 1975 in the top 10, that's quite a lot. Although it is probably deserved.

Re: Acclaimed Music: The best 50 years (part 5)

H61R, you put 10 acclaimed dollars in the jackpot for predicting that '66 or '67 would be #1.

Well, you might still be right on that, but despite Pet Sounds and Revolver, we see that:

#3: 1966

Album rank: 3

Song rank: 4

Top albums:
1 - The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
2 - The Beatles - Revolver
6 - Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde
133 - The Rolling Stones - Aftermath

Top songs:
3 - The Beach Boys - Good Vibrations
22 - Ike and Tina Turner - River Deep Mountain High
36 - The Four Tops - Reach Out (I'll Be There)
52 - The Beach Boys - God Only Knows
73 - Percy Sledge - When a Man Loves a Woman
123 - The Byrds - Eight Miles High

So, it's gonna be either 1967 ... or 1968 ...

Re: Acclaimed Music: The best 50 years (part 5)

A complete summary of the year and decade lists and rankings can be found here.

Re: Acclaimed Music: The best 50 years (part 5)

Those album rankings for 2007 seem peculiar being so highly ranked and also that they are all multiples of 11. Also is interesting that they disagree so much with top albums from 2007 posted on the main site page. Seems like Henrik might not have the it all compiled or something.

Re: Acclaimed Music: The best 50 years (part 5)

Indeed the 2007 results are surprising. Perhaps I need to tweak the formula a bit. Anyway, those are just preliminary figures.

Re: Acclaimed Music: The best 50 years (part 5)

For crying out loud, Andre, don't give me a heartattack! Like the gullible idiot I am, you had me believing that fake #2 for several seconds -- and trying to figure out how that could really be

Re: Acclaimed Music: The best 50 years (part 5)

Im Havin alot of trouble with 2007. On the link on the home page NEON BIBLE is #1 but here it's #3. That doesnt bother me, the part that does bother me is that FUNERAl, Arcade fire's first album is widely considered to be the best album of the decade. Now how can Neon Bible be place so much higher when most reviews refer to it as being the lesser of the two album. Dont get me wrong, I love Neon Bible. It just doesnt make sense.

The problem I think we're having is. there are just far to many list's being entered then in recent years. Therefor ( MORE LIST = MORE POSSIBLE MENTIONS FOR AN ALBUM)

Suggestion? Decrease the value of a list by 1/6 or something...lol... I unno IM not a mathmatician.

but let's be honest. There's not a person on this earth that thinks SOUND OF SILVER is a better and more renouned album then RADIOHEADS OK COMPUTER

Re: Acclaimed Music: The best 50 years (part 5)

Either I cannot sense your sarcasm or you didn't get the joke. The 2007 entry was fake, nobody (except for Henrik, perhaps) knows exactly where the 2007 songs/albums are gonna end up. However, I can guarantee you the year won't be anywhere near the second spot.

Re: Acclaimed Music: The best 50 years (part 5)

If it was a joke, I'm sorry for not getting my foot in my mouth. It just took me by a bit of a surprise.

My Guesses to the top 5's ultimate listing!

1) NEON BIBLE 98
2) IN RAINBOWS 103
3) SOUND OF SILVER 126
4) KALA 220
5) PERSON PITCH 300

My personal top 10 of 2007
1) Radiohead - In Rainbows
2) Arcade fire - Neon Bible
3) The National - Boxer
4) LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
5) Feist - The Reminder
6) Panda Bear - person PItch
7) Animal Collective - Strawberry jam
8) Robert Plant & Allison Kruass - Rasing Sand
9) MIA - Kala
10) The white stripes - Icky Thump

NOTE : If a Bonus Disc (IN Rainboows Disc 2) Counted. It would be 3rd.

Re: Acclaimed Music: The best 50 years (part 5)

So glad to see that some people really took it serious. Many thanks, Henrik, for playing along!

So to clarify for once and for all: It really ... was a JOKE. For the albums list I took our Pazz & Jop results, for the songs Henrik's latest Excel list.

Re: Acclaimed Music: The best 50 years (part 5)

Many thanks Andre for doing this!

Re: Acclaimed Music: The best 50 years (part 5)

Yes, thank you!

Re: Acclaimed Music: The best 50 years (part 5)

The top three are almost definitely going to be somewhere in the top 200. Maybe higher once enough time has passed for critics to canonize them.

I think it's a new rule on this forum that every countdown must include a joke entry.

So, if somebody were to countdown the best 2000s albums as voted by this forum, I wouldn't be surprised if Kevin Federline's album showed up on it.

Re: Acclaimed Music: The best 50 years (part 5)

The top three are almost definitely going to be somewhere in the top 200.

I know, you means different 'tops' here, but it sounds quite funny if you would assume the same top list.

Re: Acclaimed Music: The best 50 years (part 5)

Yes, the top 3 years will definitely be in the top 200 of years in 2112.
