And what do we learn from this:
- The fifties and noughties are now out of competition.
- Surprise for me: Due to a weak album ranking, the year 1964 is 'less good' as 1963! Even Elvis' year, 1956, beats '64.
- But 1964 does have the best song ranking so far (7) and 1988 is quite a strong album year (15).

Re: Acclaimed Music: The 50 best years (part 3)

97 is my second favourite year (well... being the year of Either/or helps a lot) and I hoped that OK Computer would help it reach top 15... I still can not believe they is not even one other album of this year in the top 200 !

Re: Acclaimed Music: The 50 best years (part 3)

Don't see how 2003 is the best year of the decade, I'd imagine that will change before the end of the decade. '94 and '97 I would put above these average 80's years.

Re: Acclaimed Music: The 50 best years (part 3)

Well, taking 6 albums and 6 songs with the logarythmic formula is just giving an indication, you could consider 10 or more albums and songs, or a totally different formula.

There seems to be a tendency to have higher positions for older decades, starting from the 00s we now see the 90s and 80s disappear, leaving the 70s and 60s for the top positions. I just did the same calculations for the decades, with the following result:

11. 1900s (no album ranking, song ranking 11)
10. 1910s (x, 10)
9. 1920s (x, 9)
8. 1930s (x, 8)
7. 1940s (7, 7)
6. 2000s (5, 6)
5. 1950s (6, 3)
4. 1980s (4, 4)
3. 1990s (3, 5)
2. 1970s (2, 2)
1. 1960s (1, 1)

So Mitchell, the 90s do win over the 80s, although the difference in score is minimal.
