to hear new music wk 5

two albums tied last week. REM - murmur and The beatles - abbey road. unfortunately, no one wanted to sell me murmur so that will have to wait until i find it. i did get abbey road though.

the winner of weak three was innervisions. now, i'm new to everything that i haven't already got on CD, so this was my first taste of stevie wonder. for the first few days, i totally didn't get it, but i left it in my car and throughout the week, it grew on me. i still can't say that it's my thing. it's not, but i do like it, i'm glad that i bought it, and i know that it will occasionally find its way into my CD player. thanks for recommending it! great album.

now 10 albums for this week: the top 10 that i don't own from the 70's

The Rolling Stones - Exile on Main St
Marvin Gaye - What's Going On
Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks - Here's the Sex Pistols
Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run
Patti Smith - Horses
Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks
Led Zeppelin - IV
The Who - Who's Next
Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life
Joni Mitchell - Blue

i am calculating the results with a spreadsheet, and it would make my life much easier if you put the albums in EXACTLY this format

1.The Rolling Stones - Exile on Main St

notice the lack of a space between the album and the rank. i think excel is case sensitive, so the best way to make sure your recommendation counts would be to simply copy and paste from above... sorry, it really is a time consuming process otherwise.

Re: to hear new music wk 5

Is it still 4 albums one should vote for? If so, here goes..

1.Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks - Here's the Sex Pistols
2.The Who - Who's Next
3.Patti Smith - Horses
4.Led Zeppelin - IV

Re: to hear new music wk 5

There are some real good albums in that list.

1. The Who - Who's Next
2. Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run
3. Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks
4. The Rolling Stones - Exile on Main St

Who's Next is my favorite album ever, but Born to Run is up there too. Blood on the Tracks is my favorite Dylan album, but to me, it isn't even close to as good as the first two (of which Who's Next may actually be the only album I consider "perfect). Exile is decent, but vastly overrated. It stands at a distant fourth place.

Re: to hear new music wk 5

Oh, my bad

1.The Who - Who's Next
2.Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run
3.Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks
4.The Rolling Stones - Exile on Main St

There, that should be better formatting. My fault.

Re: to hear new music wk 5

1.Marvin Gaye - What's Going On
2. Rolling Stones - Exile on Main St.
3. Led Zeppelin - IV
4. The Who - Who's Next

Re: to hear new music wk 5

There's a huge gap between 1 and 2. Grand Canyonesque...and I'm not even a huge Zeppelin fan.

1. Led Zeppelin - IV
2. Marvin Gaye - What's Going On
3. Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks
4. Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks - Here's the Sex Pistols

5.Marvin Gaye - What's Going On

Really, though. It's not about our consensus, but more about your own tastes.

Re: to hear new music wk 5

Moebid, have you really not heard these albums before? Or have you heard most of the album but not all? That makes a difference. I'd rather recommend an album you haven't heard at all than one where you're only going to be unfamiliar with the deep cuts. I just get the feeling that you've heard enough of these albums to hold a judgement on how you feel about them.

Re: to hear new music wk 5

1.The Who - Who's Next
2.Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run
3.The Rolling Stones - Exile on Main St
4.Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks

These are the only 4 albums on the list I have myself, and they're all brilliant (and all in my top 15).

Re: to hear new music wk 5

john, i'll put it this way. i could probably count the number of tracks that i've heard from all of those albums combined using just my fingers. and even those songs, i'm not really all that familiar with. it really is embarrassing to admit this, and, unfortunately, i think there will be people here who will think less of me for it...

anyway, point is, you are almost certain to recommend something that i'm unfamiliar with. however, i was happy with the first three weeks because all three of them were artists that i'm unfamiliar with. there were two winners of last week, but both of them were artists that i already know (though, obviously, not songs that i knew. certainly not a waste of my time.)

i mentioned in another post that i don't download, i suppose i am disadvantaged by that. also, i don't listen to the radio...
