Re: Top song by the Top 20 artists

Well, according to the site, the "best" song is "Like a Rolling Stone" (but something tells me that's not what you're looking for).

Critically speaking, I think "A Day in the Life" is the "best" song, and its merits were discussed at great length during Bracketology.

(My iTunes would say that I think Radiohead's "Everything In Its Right Place" is the "best" song - due to it having the highest playcount out of all songs by top 20 artists).

Re: Top song by the Top 20 artists

Oh, THAT'S what you meant.

It would've helped if you had written: "best song for EACH of the top 20 AM artists".

Re: Top song by the Top 20 artists

I’ll issue my usual caveat about song choices: these are my choices this morning; this evening they might be different.

About a year ago, someone (actually, I think it might have been me) started a thread with exactly the same subject. I don’t feel like going back to look, but I bet 75% of my choices here are different from what I picked back then.

The Beatles, “I Am the Walrus”
The Rolling Stones, “Happy”
Bob Dylan, “Desolation Row”
David Bowie, “Golden Years”
Led Zeppelin, “Rock and Roll” (by default)
Bruce Springsteen, “Incident on 57th Street”
Prince, “Little Red Corvette”
The Who, “I Can’t Explain”
Elvis Presley, “Promised Land”
Jimi Hendrix, “All Along the Watchtower”
The Beach Boys, “I Get Around”
The Velvet Underground, “Sweet Jane”
R.E.M., “Fall on Me”
Marvin Gaye, “What’s Going On”
U2, “Vertigo”
The Clash, “Complete Control”
Neil Young, “Rockin’ in the Free World”
Nirvana, “Breed”
Radiohead, “Paranoid Android”
Stevie Wonder, “Superstition”

Re: Top song by the Top 20 artists

Fericito: Hold it, hold on. [puts his hand up] Let's think about this for a moment. Uh, the beginning of the song you are speaking Spanish, right? You are counting, and you say 'Uno, dos, tres,' which means…

Bono: One, two, three.

Fericito: Right. And then you say 'quatorce,' which means…

Bono: Fourteen [pointing slyly at Fericito like he's so cool.]

Fericito: All right, so one, two, three, fourteen. Does that seem a little odd to you?

Bono: I know it doesn't make sense, but music is about the expression and the rhythm of words. It's about attitude.

Fericito: Senor Bono, the Spanish language is a very serious thing. To use it so carelessly is an insult to me and the entire Latin community! It's just not professional!

Bono: [holds up the V/peace sign] Well, I'm deeply sorry. It was never my intention to offend anyone.

Fericito: Bono, [throws hand up] I'm just keeeeding!

Re: Top song by the Top 20 artists

Ay caramba.

I've also heard that the gratuitous "quatorce" is supposed to be a reference to a bible verse. Ooooh, isn't he a clever little fellow!

The Edge is the main reason I'm fond of that song. Well, that and the plinky-plinky toy piano in the intro.

Re: Top song by the Top 20 artists

Sorry, schleuse - I couldn't resist quoting one of my favorite SNL sketches. (But my, you are one clever chap for discerning my underlying question from that!)

Anyways, Colin Farrell as Bono - hilarious.

Ah, what the hell... here it is!
