Rolling Stone Magazine Top 100 Songs of 2007

They're up.

Re: Rolling Stone Magazine Top 100 Songs of 2007

50 Cent at 14? Are they serious? Britney's "Piece of Me" (one of the worst on the album) at 15?

Strange list.

Re: Rolling Stone Magazine Top 100 Songs of 2007

Yeah, Piece of Me was definitely the worst song on that album... I'm really surprised Radar wasn't the first single. That song is awesome.

I have to say, I haven't heard half of these songs on this list. But, that's why I like year end charts because I can go back and find pop singles without having to spend the year listening to crappy top 40 stations.

Worst and...

Britney Spears should go hand-in-hand, no?

Notice that the album isn't faring well on year-end lists. It very well may be her best album, but stacked up against her 4 others, that ain't sayin' much. We're in an era where we have more year-end lists than ever before (compare it to pre-1990s), so an album needs these new albums need as many year-end citations to make an impact.

Re: Rolling Stone Magazine Top 100 Songs of 2007

Why in the hell is Soulja Boy so high in the list?

Re: Rolling Stone Magazine Top 100 Songs of 2007

I still think that album would have been more highly acclaimed if all the craziness of the past two years hadn't happened, but then this album might not have been made. Who cares. I like it for the most part, I don't need confirmation. I'm not the "Leave Britney Alone" guy!

Probably Not...

the music press don't care about crazy lifestyle, after all. :) If the music is strong, it will say so.

Spears just isn't a very strong musical act. She phoned in the vocals for this album, any phone-sex chick could have done 'em. So, if the beats are good, kudos to the producers. (as usual, she didn't have a hand in the production collaboration or songwriting). Maybe if Cathy Dennis had contributed a couple tracks to the album, she would have had a couple great tracks. Ever hear her demo of "Toxic"? Britney added nuttin to it (unshockingly).

Re: Rolling Stone Magazine Top 100 Songs of 2007

Totally. But the production is good. I think some critics take lifestyle into account. The ones that don't had good things to say about it.

Re: Rolling Stone Magazine Top 100 Songs of 2007

Seriously, why is Soulja Boy anywhere in this list? It almost negates whatever credibility the list has.

Re: Rolling Stone Magazine Top 100 Songs of 2007

I really don't get why they list only one song per artist. Really, every track LCD Soundsystem, Radiohead, Spoon, and the National released this year is better than "Rockstar," and could theoretically have been on the top 100.

Re: Rolling Stone Magazine Top 100 Songs of 2007

I never understood that either, but it seems most (if not all) magazines and/or critics do the same. Is that some kind of unwritten rule?

Re: Rolling Stone Magazine Top 100 Songs of 2007

I think a lot of publications try to use the song lists to acclaim radio singles. That's harder to do these days but I think that's the goal, especially with Rolling Stone and Pitchfork.

Re: Rolling Stone Magazine Top 100 Songs of 2007

this is a good list
