China

China. about 20% of the world's population, zero albums on acclaimed music. i don't think i've ever heard any chinese music... anyone here know anything about chinese music?

Re: China

I only know some annoying Chinese pop songs that my friend's girlfriend keeps linking me too. http://youtube.com/watch?v=m9YovRkvo0U

If I could bring myself to hate an artist (see recent Which-band-from-the-top-20-do-you-hate-topic) it would be Rainie Yang.

Re: China

The thing about China is that due to bootlegging it is financially impossible to make a living on recorded music. The only Chinese pop stars are movie stars first, recording artists second. The major labels are now heavily studying the Chinese music scene just in case doomsday comes and they'll have to abandon recorded music revenue for good and learn to make a living off music some other way (such as licensing to films, etc.).

Also, China, like all third world nations, idolizes American culture to the point of ignoring their own. It's tragic but unavoidable due to the powerful influence of American media.

Yatta! Depending on where you work it might not be safe. Nothing crude but it does feature men in undies.

This was a really good NPR story about anti-establishment music in China...plus I just helped NPR's SEO just a little bit (not enough to overtake Fox News...sigh).
