Re: Blender's 100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums

Can we really talk about "indie" for albums released before the early 80s ? For me, indie started with 80's post-punk and new-age, didn't it ?

Re: Blender's 100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums

"new wave" I meant to say, not "new age"...

Blender's 100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums

miss small letters, some early ep:s and variable band width, pretty much everything except 192 kbps. come on pilgrim.

Re: Blender's 100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums

Brian Eno and The Velvet Underground do not belong on this list.

But The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have a better album than "Another Green World", do they. I learn something new every day.

Re: Blender's 100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums

Wait, how can you count the Smiths as indie and not have Queen Is Dead in your top ten?

Not a bad list, except the #1 is a really weak choice for #1. Daydream Nation should be #1.

There are also a few questionable inclusions and a few "Uhh...isn't that...not indie?" inclusions, like Nine Inch Nails.

Re: Blender's 100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums

Nah, that album's definitely indie. It was released on TV Tunes first. It wasn't until the early 90's that Interscope picked up NIN and rereleased the catalogue.

Re: Blender's 100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums

Another month, another awful Blender list.

Re: Blender's 100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums

It's time to stop using the word indie. College rock works much better.

Re: Blender's 100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums

The inclusion of acts like 13th Floor Elevators, De La Soul, Nick Drake and LCD Soundsystem-all wonderful but all completely unrelated to the genre in question-tends to make a mockery of this list.Other than these bizarre entries this is a strong and eclectic collection of albums.
I have to say 'Let It Be' gets far too high a placing-The Replacements were always the poor relation to Husker Du in the mid-80s twin cities mix-up.As for the no.1 being a "really weak choice", well, et tu BillAdama?

Re: Blender's 100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums

Labeling the list "Indie Rock" was kind of pointless, but that doesn't change the fact that I really like a lot of the albums on it. Especially glad to see newer favorites like Cat Power and Rilo Kiley on the list.

No list is perfect to the reader except for the one they make themselves. And even then it's open for debate.

Re: Blender's 100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums

Hey, Henrik - I was going through the forum compiling lists that haven't been added yet and I noticed that you never issued a "ruling" on this thread as to whether this one was eligible for inclusion or not. So - yea or nay?

Re: Blender's 100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums

Genre-specific list from a non-genre-specific magazine, doubtful.

Re: Blender's 100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums

Genre-specific list from a non-genre-specific magazine, definitely.

Re: Blender's 100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums

Huh? "Genre-specific best-of-lists are only included if they are from a magazine specialised in this genre."

Re: Blender's 100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums

Indie technically isn't a genre. Sometimes it's couped with genres though (Lo-Fi for example)

Re: Blender's 100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums

Indie is a genre in the sense that it excludes other kinds of music (non rock, mainstream)
If it is not the definition of a genre, tell me what it is
