…“There She Goes,” by the La’s. The song with the catchy hook and the ambiguous subject-matter is the champion of the BNIT, with 40 points. Five voters picked this #1: Loophole, Pomtidom (sorry, Neoptolemos), Honorio, Midaso, and Mo.
The runner-up was “Psycho Killer,” by Talking Heads, with 36 points and three first-place votes (schleuse, John, and twister).
The bronze medal goes to Love’s “Alone Again Or.” Love garners 34 points and was chosen first by Harold Wexler and nicolas.
The White Stripes’ “Fell in Love with a Girl” is at the back of the pack with 30 points, despite four first place votes (Anthony, Henrik, jonmarck, and Rocky Raccoon).
In familiar, easy-to-digest form, here are the official results:
13. THE LA’S, “THERE SHE GOES” (40 / 5)
7. Talking Heads, “Psycho Killer” (36 / 3)
3. Love, “Alone Again Or” (34 / 2)
33. The White Stripes, “Fell in Love with a Girl” (30 / 4)
Only ten points separated the La’s from the Stripes, making this a fairly close bracket.
By the way, I’m sure a lot of folks (well, maybe a couple) are now wondering how “There She Goes” would have done in the big tournament. If I had used the July 31 rankings, “There She Goes” would have been up against “Good Vibrations” in the first round…so it probably wouldn’t have fared too well (see this week’s bracketology results for “Good Vibrations,” being posted right about now).
Before striking the set for the BNIT, a big thank you to everyone who participated: Anthony*, Harold Wexler*, Henrik*, Honorio, John, jonmarck*, JR, Keith, Loophole*, marc, Midaso*, Mo*, Moonbeam. Neoptolemos, nicolas, otisredding, Rocky Raccoon*, Schwah, Slush, twister and Vgrd. Without you good people, I’d just be a strange music fan with an obsession for ranking…actually, that’s what I am anyway, but it’s heartening to know I’m in such good company!
(The asterisked voters above are the ones who voted every week, in every round.)
Definitely a worthy winner, and quite a surprising one at that.
Thanks for this schleuse - it was nice to have a bit of gratification in the meantime while the big Bracketology is still going strong. Well presented also.
